Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
I have one of those...... somewhere. You never really think about the bike sinking into the drive un till its nearly to late.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Had a great run out today, riding for about 6 hours - by far the longest run since I got the machine a couple of months ago.
Yeah, the riding position is a bit harsh on the wrists, but by the time I got home I seemed to have lost the use of my thumbs!!! They dont hurt or anything, I just cant grip anymore, rather alarming really. So I think I had better look into getting something to adjust the handle bars. Any recommendations?

There's a couple of routes you can take. Either go for high rise bars, Renthals, VFR bars or as I have done, later modelled Storm bars which are a few degrees higher. Also a quick action throttle tube helps as you don't have the extra twist to wide open throttle which puts a fair bit of strain on the wrist.

The later model handle bars are a good idea. Less or a downwards slope on them and raise the bars up to the top of the forks rather than having the 6mm gap between the top of the bars and the top of the forks. Makes a big difference. Failing that it is a straight bar conversion but your looking at some big money

While your on mate where's best place in North west to take it for a service? Will do only self but want the book stamping so it's still got a full service history, thinking of swapping it for a blade after that opp storm ride,
fantastic for two hours and after that I was in agony with the Rearsets position my legs are bit to long so feels a bit extreme do you know if you can get any adjuster plates to lower them and move them forwards I would defo stick them on if I was to do another all day ride out

Sorry mate, posted then went out for a ride. No idea where to go in the nw, But any independent dealer can stamp your book, just go to someone with a good rep, ask about see if they'll give you a stamp for an oil and filter change

How tall are you ?, i'm 5'9 or 10 ?(think I might be shrinking

Valtermoto say jack up plates, if they don't do lower ones you could get something made easily by an engineering firm.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
dont you just love that feeling when you fit a new tyre"?
put a new PR3 on the rear on Saturday and the front PR3 is only a few months old and once I bedded them in the bike was running like it was on rails today. didnt realise the effect the badly worn one was having on the composure of the bike.
Might also help that I fitted new bearings and shafts on the rear linkage to eliminate that little bit of free play I could feel when it was up on the ABBA stand [there is still a bit but it it better]

Got back out on mine again today. Did 130miles with the missus on the back. Forgot how much of a pain in the butt it was having a pillion. First you have to adjust the shock, the firestorm is the hardest one I have ever adjusted, then you have the fact my missus has a bad back at the moment so you have to keep stopping every half hour or so and then you have to adjust the shock back to where is was when you get back
Doesn't help the tabs on the shock have bent inwards from the amount of force needed to move it.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
If you take the weight off the rear when you adjust the preload it's a lot easier to turn. It's not that difficult to get to, there's a lot of bikes where it's much harder to do. did preload on a mates ZZR1400 the other day, there's hardly any room and a threaded collar. Had to remove heal plate and chain guard, wrap chain so as not to get covered in crap, locate c spanner on one side while mate holds it in place on the other to stop it slipping, then quarter turn at a time until desired preload was achieved (it took lots as the bike had way too much sag). He's going to keep it like that now and use the compression adjustment for one up/two up.Ckennedy wrote:Got back out on mine again today. Did 130miles with the missus on the back. Wow that does sound like hard work. Problem is I can not get the back end of the bike off the floor in order to get the weight off it

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
gave the bike a little clean before popping over to west london with a few friends.
popped into see carl. he had a little ride of my mates 170bhp zx10r.....that things in a different class.
we blagged some of carls cleaning material and gave the 10 a wee bit of a clean. then on the way home thru westminster, a young arab fella in a convertible merc cuts across two lanes and almost wipes us out....
i had to stop my mate from clumping the guy.....
all in all an eventful day.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
got the pee wee started for the first time today
.
it runs like sh1t it won't pull through the revs and bogs down so new plug is on order , but i have a feeling it will need a piston and rebore .
it also looses oil both 2 stroke oil and sump oil !
so when the plug gets here i will give it a go and see .
so it looks like i might have two engines to rebuild this year .
oh and i gave kermit a wash and lube .

cant be arsed faffing in the garage to match up some bolts right now will sort it tomorrow what's its actual purpose mate?

Came home to find a complete hornet in the garage. Checked the discs and forks and they are indeed new and oil free. New clutch cable also, was gonna take it out for a very quick blast to see what difference it truly makes but the weather is bloody miserable and it's been a while since I've ridden now. Suppose I can wait a day
