Nice one Hawk  It amazes me how a bike can get in such a state, but I know it happens.

jonjonsocal brought his bike by today after getting it back from the shop and it not running correctly.

So let's see what we can find....
Image

On the stand the skirt up, knickers down..... and we find the first "issue"

Image

The plastic plate that goes under the carbs is missing..... :eek2 not good and have let him know that he needs to hunt one down.

Then as I am getting ready to pull the valve covers I happen to look at the carbs.....as I didn't need to pull them as the plate is missing.
My though was what kind of monkey could have a bike go through his shop and not see this.... though that would be an insult to monkeys everywhere.....

Image

I mean it's not like the cap is cracked and just missed.... they all looked like that, if any part was left at all. So that was 4 vacuum leaks......

Then they buggered the inspection cover and put the old one back in..... so after dealing with that I find the engine is hard to turn over, so after dropping the left rad. and pulling the valve cover I find this....

Image

Not sure if you can tell from the pic but there was 0 lash in the cam chain. It was about as tight as you could get it..... :eek2

So got that sorted and the bike buttoned up for a quick test ride around the neighborhood.... Now it just needs all the fluids flushed be she is a runner again.
Thanks sooo much, the easier choices arent the best ones most of the time...

Im looking forward to bringing my miles closer to yours.. I doubt wife and kids will give me enough free time to do it, but I'll try, starting today... It should be a fun ride taking it home.. LOL thanks a lot.

Washed them, checked and lubed chains, looked at the storms tank that has been tankbaggged to death and had a ladder dropped on it at some point in the past and thought 'T cut? Naaaah'
Budget storm gradually on the road to spangliness.

Glad it worked, mate.
I love a good work-around, me.

Probably worth swapping the rotor to one to one with marks, though, just to check that you aren't a tooth out.
I think the screwdriver tdc will be accurate enough, though- certainly for now, and carb setting won't be affected.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I have to say my thanks to :Worship1: 8541Hawk for getting my bike running in 1/2 a day. He REALLY knows his way around a Superhawk, he noticed things missing on my bike that I could tell my self. He is really friendly and very knowledgeable I had to drive my bike on a trailer for almost 2 hours to get to him and it was time well spend. When I dropped my bike off at his place, I could ride it around the block.. He in just a matter of hours was able to get it running, well not just running, I was able to ride it home with a smile on my face the whole way home :D :Bike: ... 60+ miles going 75-85mph. I couldn't believe it. If any of you need anything I can say I recommend him, he can work on my bike when ever he wants. I just met him and I say I trust him 110%. There were some parts missing from the bike that he is going to install when they come in the mail... Im looking forward to see him.. I also wish I had the time to learn as he was willing to share his knowledge with me... Thank you so much, for all your help and time. I really appreciate your help, good people like you are hard to find in this world. Your the best...

Thanks Mike.... :D

I've done 2800 miles since the last oil and filter change and I've topped it up with a total of 4 litres so far . If it carries on like this I shell just change the oil filters every 2 k :-)
I think its time I started the spare engine rebuild

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O I thought mine was bad. Makes mine look like nothing  only takes 100-200ml when I top it up. Think I used about 1l of oil in top ups last year and I have done over 6k on it.
