Do you mean does the bike hang on it's way back to idle after blipping the throttle?...the answer is no it seems really crisp and responsive, but a road test will tell all. That won't be until next week now as i need to get the tank back from my mate's garage and then get it cleaned out.

I meant the rev needle.

THE BLIP TEST

1. Start by warming the bike up to normal operating temperature.
2. Blip the throttle up several thousand RPM's or up to redline if you so desire.

As it comes back down to idle one of three things will happen and these are the three results:

1. Upon return to idle it hangs. Where ever it hangs in the RPM's it is running lean. Even a slight hang just before returning to idle means it is running lean at idle.(Must return directly to idle without popping, lag, or hanging).

2. Upon return to idle it goes slightly past and below idle then returns back up to idle speed momentarily. This is a rich run condition.

3. It returns directly to idle w/o any lag, hesitation, or going below idle you have a perfect a/f mixture and run condition.

Anyway crisp and responsive sounds good.

Oh that needle lols....I've had my head in the carbs for so long that I automatically thought carb needles and wondered what you were talking about lols

So, the needle (tacho) returns cleanly to idle speed without hanging, and doesn't dip below idle and then come back up so I reckon it's close. Getting the tank back tonight.

re-checked my tps setting which was strangely 836 ohms-i had checked it before at 506 ohms. Adjusted the tps but moving it made no difference. Removed the tps and it came away in 3 parts...bugger.

Ordered a set of carbs from ebay as Honda want my soul for a new TPS. Carbs arrive, a bit grotty but that doesn't matter. Turned them over and more bugger...TPS has a bloody great crack in it. Emailed the dude who sold them and to be fair he sorted things straight away, given me most of my money back and I've kept the carbs for spares. They cost me less than £19 with choke cables!! Popped a diaphragm cap off just now and found stock springs and adjustable needles...winner

Sooo..ordered another set of carbs for £70 delivered from a bike with a blown motor and the seller checked the TPS for me.

I make that about £88 for 2 sets of carbs and 1 jet kit of as yet unknown make. I'm ok with that!!

Doh you where a bit quick of the mark buying carbs there. tony.mon has a TPS for sale in the sales and wants. It's always worth checking here first!

As for the adjustment on the TPS the carb balance affects it's position as the adjuster for balancing the carbs is attached to the throttle plate (butterfly) in the carb throat along with the TPS.

Yep just found that. Didn't even think of checking here. Still looks like I've got a jet kit into the bargain, and maybe another in the other carbs-who knows?? If I can get £30 back for each set I bought, I'll have a set of adjustable needles and a TPS for £28 all in so maybe not so bad.

When I can get the float bowl screws out I'll see if I have DJ or FP/Keihin mains and hopefully work out what kit it is.

Does anyone have an answer for what fault causes a Firestorm to idle like the one in the video...

This is not my bike but mine does exactly this.

I've spent a fair bit of time fine tuning my pilot screws but I can't get rid of it so I'm thinking it's not a fuelling issue.

Thanks

'Carb fart' - quite normal but that one in the vid is doing it a bit more than usual.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
