Rear one, easy and simple, no surprises.

Front one is more difficult, merely because you have to strip off more to get access, and you can't see it so easily.
One tip- get a strong hose or pressure washer up under the steering head and behind (not on) the oil cooler, as any grit or dirt that hangs around the front head/frame area drops into the engine when you start to work there :eek2

The cleaner the area, the better.

Set the engine as per the workshop sticky about changing CCT's before you remove CCT and cams for the cylinder concerned.

But before you start, you could try pulling off the tank and rear cambox cover, then tightening all of the 14mm bolts you can see in the head, just to see if you can nip it up enough to stop leaking. Takes minutes, and might just save you having to take the head off.

Oh, and the only thing with either head that might cause you concern is that you could snap an exhaust stud.

If you're taking the head off anyway, fix it then- much easier on the bench.

Lastly, you might as well check valve clearances while you're looking at them, but of course that's only one head, the other one's valve clearances will still need to be checked at some stage.

I'll get the head gasket ordered now. Is it recommendable to change the oil at the same time?

OK let’s finalise a plan for this workshop day, firstly let’s confirm the date as Sat 17th Sept, which is NEXT Sat guys so we need to move this on so everyone involved knows what we are doing.

So far we have :
flatLine
cct's
carb balancing
new fork springs etc

Miztaziggy
Carb balance
Tps check
Fork springs / oil and poss seals on new forks
Valve clearance possibly

budd
cct's
carb balence
tps check
headstock check
suspension check / set up (static sag, fork oil level etc)

who else is planning to attend and what jobs are we attempting ?

There’s been talk of a head gasket, if so pop it on the list, I have some brass take offs for the carb balancing and the gauge is on its way (many thanks AMCQ46) I just need some ‘T’ pieces and some 5 mm vac tube and we’re ready to go, post what your proposing to do so we can ensure we have the right tools, parts etc. on hand.
