It depends, really.
Standard is 10, but your choice is to either go heavier and that can work if the standard spring is too light for your weight and riding style.
I'd really only recommend it if you are finding that the std damping (combined rebound and compression) isn't enough- your comment about it pogoing might be an indicator here, assuming that you've tried to adjust but run out of adjustment.
The Std springs are usually a little too stiff for most people, but an oil change and clean (as you've found) gets them back to a usable state.
Thing is you don't notice it going off slowly, but one day you notice, and it'll never be right for you after that.
Mostly, a slightly lower rated spring, 7.5 weight oil and an air gap of 1430-140mm is about right- you won't be disappointed with those settings, but very few people bother to play around with air gaps etc to see what they like best. Mostly, like you, they clean and change the oil, and find it feels better, then leave it alone.
But try changing the oil and report back what you find- I'd expect that 10 would be about right, as your height would put more weight higher up over the front wheel, and you don't want it diving- especially so if you have a 6mm shock spacer in place.
Different strokes for different folks- the way you ride, how hard you are on the brakes, how much you lean it over- all of these affect an ideal setting- it's personal, otherwise there would be one setting and we'd all have that set up.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
i had ran out of adjustment bud ...... i tried an air gap of 120 with the 15 weight but it was so hard i couldn't move it lol i don't proclaim to be any good with suspension but i'm confident enough to strip and keep playing till it feels right .... if that makes sense
i had decided to go with the 15 weight oil after a friend that has a vtr said that he found it the best .... but i am always willing to explore different avenues ..... im only young so its all a big learning curve ..
tony as for keeping ya posted im just putting the 10 weight oil in now with the gap of 140 so i shall be done in a hour or so ( depends on whats for dinner ) then i will take it down the country roads near mine and let you all know how it feels
thanks again guys really appreciate it i love this forum
