Harley Prices

I was curious to see, in MCN, that Harley are offering 0% finance on 883's, prices from about £5,800.
The £ stands at 2.10 against th $. You can buy a brand new 883 in the US for $6695, which is £3188.09, so who pockets the other £2,700? Rip off Britain?
Winder how much it would cost to ship a bike across

- not that I want one mind you.

A very good point Paul (Stratman).
I remember many years ago you could buy a Triumph motorbike for two or three grand less in America depending on which model you wanted
Absolutely ridiculous when you consider they are made here in the UK in the first place
Chris.

If you want to buy a Harley in the States you will go on a waiting list because they serve the foreign markets first

is it any wonder

Thanks for the Harley Ferguson. When I tell people I ride bikes they say "Ooh, is it a Harley?" (must be something to do with being middle aged I guess) and I always say "no, I think you'll find that they are two wheeled tractors"

Not that anyone's interested, but...
A bike mechanic friend of mine reckons that a cheap way to a Harley is to buy the 883 and spend a few hundred quid on a new top end (barrels, cylinders and con rods) as the bottom end is the same, thus saving a good few quid on the list price. Plus, of course, it's still listed as an 883 so insurance would be cheaper (although I certainly wouldn't advocate anything like that)

TBH
I think it's a sickening subject for this forum!
There maybe young impressionable bikers reading this thread who may entertain the idea that these are actually motorcycles
When we all know where they really belong .....
