My local paper today says:

"LONDON: Sales of beer in Britain have dropped to the lowest levels since the 1930s, brewers said yesterday, as the country turns increasingly to wine and spirits."

Jack Daniels is crap, like all Bourbon (IMHO :) .

I just had the pleasure of a bottle of Jura single malt (not this morning, I might add). First time I'd tried that one, normally preferring Islay malts, but it is now my favourite I think.

However, a semi decent bottle of wine for £4.99 lasts me all evening but, as Timbo said, doesn't get me two pints in most pubs so its no surprise.

I find the Islay single malts to peaty for my taste, now Balvenie double wood that's a smooth single malt. But for heavy nights Jack is cheaper and does it for me

Ardbeg is a great one - makes Laphroig taste thin and weedy!

Its a clean spirit, makes your head go numb, doesnt make me sick and it never gives me a hangover.

Dont drink that house vodka though, only stick to the good stuff like Absolut or Smirnoff.

And at around £12 a litre it is about the same price as petrol in the UK.
Aha, the voice of reason!

I would recommend Stolichnaya - Smirnoff is nice enough, but Stolichnaya is nectar of the gods. Put bottle in freezer, come back two hours later, drink neat, smile, fall over.

One can still go overboard enough on Smirnoff to make one rather rueful the next morning :? (I believe one bottle is sufficient...)

Must just be you. Although after one bottle of Smirnoff, I was nowhere near as sick as after a whole bottle of Southern :(

Mangoes are cheap as chips here atm. Pureed up half a dozen fresh ones last night with some fresh pineapple & chucked it over ice with that new Raspberry Smirnoff... very nice :D

Mind you, I did get some funny looks from people yesterday during about a 100k ride in the rain with two trays of mangoes sitting on my tank... LOL.
