thinking of buying a Storm

Hi ,
I currently own a sv650 which I'm really happy with , however I am wanting more power , trouble is I do about 15k miles a year and the sv returns 50 mpg .
Have read through most of the threads on the board and have a couple of questions :-
1. What are the service intervals / approx costs ?
2. Do you really have to change the CCT every 10 k miles ?
3. What is a realistic mpg , I would have thought 40mpg would be possible if short shift & don't go crazy
4. Do they carb ice in the winter ?
5. ballpark chain life with a scotoiler ?
6. ballpark tyre life for sports touring tyre eg Diablo strada ?

Have test riden a 98 model and really liked it

Cheers

Agree with all lee67 has said. I went from a SV650 to a Firestorm a few years ago and loved every minute of it with no regrets what so ever! Storm is a much under-rated, fun bike in my opinion and actually still have my regrets that I ever sold mine! :(
You should be able to pick up a great bargain bike at this time of year too! :)
All the best,
Davie.

Don't hesitate!!

I have a 2001 VTR for everyday use and a 1999 VFR for touring.
VTR is much more fun.
MPG about 40 ish, dropping with some welly of course!
Chain life with Scotoiler, chain will easily last 20,00 miles.(Ihave a Scotoiler on mine)
Nothing exciting about services, just normal bike prices.
I use mine in the depths of winter and no carb icing problems for me.
Worth spending some money on decent cans and a dynojet kit, makes a hell of a difference.

Regular carb balancing helps for smoother running too.

:D

one finally question the larger tank model ( 2001 ?) is 19 l compared to 16 l , is this the model to go for ?

Cheers

Hi. Owned mine for 7 years, so:-

1. Do most servicing myself, but costs for carb balancing etc reasonable as x2 not x 4
2. No, my front CCT went at 35,000 miles. Now have manual ones fitted myself
3. 42 mpg mostly, dropping to 36 if pushing. Use some revs and keep the motor spinning and you will get the best mpg, chugging away in low gears justs wastes fuel
4. No
5. Got 35,000 out of last chain with Scotoiler and it wasn't streteched but I thought it was about time and I wanted to lower the gearing anyway (best mod by far IMHO)
6. Avon AV45/46 - now superseded by the appropritaly named Storm, 7,000 rear, 11,000 front, scrape pegs at will

It's a beautiful colour!

:D

One thing I would ask (because I'm naturally suspicious) - why have the clocks got a towel around them?
