selling your vehicle, part exing, or sold it recently?
we part ex'd a car mid december, today Ive had a letter from DVLA saying that I have not taxed it since it ran out end of december and will be liable to minimum £80 fine for not notifying them.
the garage tore off the yellow trade slip from the V5 and we signed and sent off, it appears either the Royal Mail or DVLA have lost it so I am liable.
talking to the garage , they said they have had a couple of enquiries recently from other people in the same position. They now reccomend that you either send recorded mail or if you have not had a confirmation of receipt from DVLA after a month , to chase it up as a second back up to avoid a potential fine.
take photo copies as back up.

a similar (or not) situation happened to my brother
he bought a bike, got the green slip and waited for the v5 to arrive. waited.......waited some more.......and then some.
contacted the seller and guess what he said
'you got the bike cheap enough so i didnt send it off'
wtf is wrong with some people!!!!

i'd go past a couple of speed camaras at about 100mph one night...phone the cops saying it was stolen....but you found it again on local waste ground that morning...the tickets/court summons would go to him, lol, that might make him send the docs away.

Cheers for the warning Chaz
It's always the same, screw every penny out of the easy to get (registered at the DVLA) motorist
Better they put as much effort in getting those non insured, non taxed and non registered road users
Chris.

Hear, Hear!
Gov is always picking on the easy targets. About time they started doing some real work.

Sorry to put my oar in, but isn't that the whole point of SORN, so that tax avoiders can be more easily identified?
Put road tax on petrol instead then if you drive you can't avoid it (and if you have several bikes/cars etc) you don't pay multiple times when you can only ride/drive one at a time!

Sorry Strat, I was generalising rather largely there. I was thinking cause they've got you on record it's easy to send a bill out unlike if they have an unregistered, untaxed vehicle on the road which would take a bit more time and effort to catch.
Then he said

Sounds like a good sensibles option. They would even save money on not having to chase down offenders.
He also said
Sorry to put my oar in,
Never be Sorry Stratman. That's what this place is for and everyones opinion counts for something

Nothing wrong with sticking your oar in Paul (Stratman) debates are good
I would definitely say Paul that is the idea of SORN

But it's only going to work on the genuine people who register their vehicles with the DVLA, and that was the point I was trying to emphasize
You can bet your bottom dollar those drivers/riders without insurance or road tax and couldn't careless about an mot will be giving out a false name and address when purchasing their vehicles, which will obviously make it much harder for the DVLA to fine

So Pete is right when he says the Gov is always picking on easy targets which is the point I was getting at
Chris.

I love the looks on the faces of these little scrotes when the policman tells them they are confiscating their car and it will be crushed.
Only shame is they don't leave the driver in it. Perhaps Mr Brunstrom will cotton on to this as a campaign idea?
