Engine Dies

During a recent ride through Germany - in heavy rain- the engine of my 2005 VTR 1000 Firestorm stuttered and died. This was on a 2 lane section of autobahn with no hard shoulder - just a concrete barrier. Not a good place to break down.
After 5 mins or so the heat from the motor had dried things out enough for the bike to start and run again.
This pattern continued until I reached safer ground. The motor would start to misfire, then run a bit on one cylinder then stop altogether. The heat of the motor would dry things out and then off we would go on the sane cycle of events.

This had happened once before 3 years ago - in Belgium on a dual carriageway wth no hard shoulder. On returning home and visiting my local dealer, a mechanic sprayed the ingnition ledas with a product by Wurth which seemed to help for a while.

Has anyone any thoughts on theis problem ?

Cherrs.

This happened to me in France in real heavy rain, solved the problem by changing the spark plug leads for good quality ones. After a while the original ones begin to perish, this should do the trick.

Yeah I did that on the last trip but it didn't seem to help much.

I will go for the new leads.
