Learning to ride the hard way

So, this morning, hears a crash and looks out through window to see a nice new Aprillia RS125 stuffed under the back of our car (which was parked out front), rider was sprawled in middle of road. Goes outside to help and luckily the rider (turns out to be young girl 17/18) is not too badly hurt. Gave me a fright at first seeing puddle of red liquid near the car which later turned out to be oil! Waiting for ambulance & plod I talk to the rider and it turns out she's been riding for just 6 weeks, but more worrying was while she had a reasonable jacket on she was wearing v.thin trousers and trainers. Her leg was a bit chewed up but it could have been much worse. She was very lucky and I explain that if her leg had been trapped between bike and road instead of her being thrown clear it would have been a bad injury. Obviously couldn't say much more to the poor thing but I really wanted to make the point and get her to buy some better protection. It seems she tried to avoid a speed bump, hit a patch of gravel/leaves and just slid off. I picked what was left of the bike up, repairable I think but I'm guessing she was on TPF&T and those plastics (all fairing/seat, bars, pegs, mirrors, scratched frame) won't be cheap.
Hell of a time of year to be learning to ride a bike.... and I just posted in another thread about the council's failure to remove dead leaves from the road this year. Maybe it's cost-cutting?

Seriously though, hope it doesn't put her off biking.

Nup think you hit the nail on the head there. think hankie was saying her pants were that thin they just fell off for him to have a butchers or was he dreaming we’ll never know

Next time I'll take some photos for yous all.
Still a bleedin oil slick in the road, they did a sh1t job of cleaning it up.

Holy molely!, just dusted the abacus off. 26 years ago. Surely that's too long to go without touching a seventeen year olds leg.
Oh well, the wife's been asking me what I want for X-mas, I guess I've got something to put on the list now

Well done Chris in putting that across about wearing more protective clothing etc, you may well have just saved her from more misery later on
