A V-Twin!

But not a VTR.

Right here's the decision. Mate of mine wants the ZX, cash waiting having just sold his CBR. I must confess to have missed the V Twin like buggery.

Quick phone call to Stewart at Perth motorcycles this afternoon "Any V Twins on the go", well 3 actually. 1 Firestorm which i have seen in the Cupar branch, immac, low miles but at 3k...eek!!

Next we have 2 749 Ducati's, a 2006 Dark model and a 2004 Red one.

So, has anyone on this forum owned one, currently still have one or know of anyone who has owned loved/hated a 749?

I would really appreciate any owners opinions be they good or bad.

Was it new and unregistered?
Going rate on E-Blag is around £1200-1600.
And coming down wth every passing bailiff......

Nice standard condition, lowish miles, but still seems a bit overpriced IMHO for a 99.

I'd want at leaast a decent all inclusive warranty, (not just parts) + new tyres.

Depends on you, and I suppose your mechanical skills, but I'd be looking for a 2002 or so for that money.

For me, as I don't mind fixing up and fettling, I'd save at least a grand, get a more modern one with higher miles, hopefully cans already replaced and be prepare to sort out silly stuff like brakes, tyres, chain and head bearings.

Because those things only cost a couple of hundred pounds all in plus boots (and maybe CCT replacements with APEs fpr peace of mind) I'd think you'd pick up a better bike.

Lastly, if you pay more for an older but low mileage one, then stick eight or ten thousand on it, it drops the value back in line with other of that year.

But if you go for it, haggle!
It'll be the only sale they make all week, and they certainly didn't pay anything like that price for it :D

Got to agree ,overpriced.....but sometimes..if you want something badly..

I used http://www.parkers.co.uk/motorbikes/used-prices/ ,though not sure how accurate prices are :!:

To me, there asking nearly private sale SP1 money,...i'd check everywhere for a guide, ie MCN, Ebay, Biketrader etc

There's a nice 03 Blue Firestorm F-2 in Cowdenbeath , not too far from you , £2650 or BEST OFFER , fitted with some nice goodies ,cans etc , not sure if you'd be interested or not :!:

I'd try him with way less ,you can always go up the way :D

Just got a 1998 firestorm off ebay (well October) with 16k miles for £1200 - and that was with new tyres and pads, and 6-months tax.
Chester Honda centre sold it, it was a trade in they didn't want in the showroom, but it is minty.
And best of all, it's yellow.
Good winter bike I thought...

... that said, the R/R has packed last week.

Try a Ducati, I rode a 749 after riding the 848 and to be honest its a lovely bike. Unbelieveably stable at all speeds in fact a bit too stable as you have to muscle it into a quick direction change but once into the bend it really is confidence inspiring. Power wise its spot on for road riding different in a lot of ways to the Storm as the power seems to be delivered higher up the range. In red with monoposto seat unit they look the mutts nutts imo. My next bike after the blade will be an 848 unless something new comes out that looks and sounds better in the mean time (Norton 961?)
