BEGINNING TO THIN K i'M JINXED!

Post by Jaglifter »

So I'm blatting along down a local straight on the Velocette. Flat strap, head on tank (somewhere over 80 mph), when it misses a beat. Funny I thought, cus it doesn't do that at the top end. Next there's this skreeeeeech from the back wheel! A second later I reralise its the back wheel refusing to turn any more.

Clutch in. Roll to a halt. Engine totally solid. :?

After a lot of frigging about I've now got it home. Think its either dropped a valve or siezed. Valve is favourite cus its still solid now that its cooled down.

Suppose it'll give me something to so for a while. Lucky I've just bought a load of old spares (or tatty old junk as my wife calls it).

I guess I'm lucky it skidded in a straight line and didn't throw me off :D

Oooh, not nice. I had a chain break on a Suzi X7 and that pulled up in a fairly straight line with lots of rubber smoke as the chain had jammed the rear wheel solid!!!
Good luck with the rebuild.

Thanks for your replies.

I'll post some pics of the carnage when I get it to pieces.

I remember that feeling John of everything all going well, next sudden silence, a split second before the tyre screeching sound hits your ears :!:

As you say good job it happened on a straight part of the road :!:

Glad you're OK that's :D

You're not jinxed, but it's bloody hard work pushing pins into model Velo's.

Bit of luck for a change :D

Turns out it had just siezed. Nothing too dramatic. Re-honed the barrel, filed off the high spots on the piston and I'm back in business.

One advantage of having an old bike with steel liner 8)

Sorry no pics of smashed pitons or bent valves.

Thanks Timbo.

Nice thing about a single cylinder is that you can spend ages honing and getting it spot on, cus there is only one to do.

Not like with the jaguar's six or 12 cylinders. That can get really boring!
