The frame is cracking at the headstock, one failed and killed a racer so Suzuki looked into it and found that hard used models were indeed cracking. They will carry out a(PFD) penetrative flaw detection then fit a brace for nowt, or if cracked replace the frame with a braced version. Bound to hit residuals wouldnt you say?

Went in my local dealers on Saturday and they've sold more Gixxer 1000's over the last month (mainly K5/6 models) than they ever have They had one 06 in the showroom awaiting collection that day and were selling another while I was in the shop

I know the mechanic very well and they had two K5's awaiting headstock inspections. If it's knackered they totally replace the frame and if not the brace is fitted as a precaution. Suppose you can't say fairer than that? Although I agree it's not very confidence inspiring...

It all sounds very familiar to me though. Suzook always have had build/finish issues. The TL I had needed to have a tank replacement and a bad impellor seal that seemed to be issues of TLS's of that ilk. And the Busa had the sub frame issues.

Agreed mate but as Mellis proved not everyone has heard about the frame recall. The K5 IMO is the best of all the GSXRs lovely to look at, extremely powerful and great confident handling, but I know some might opt for the later models or give the brand a miss totally if on a budget after seeing the frame brace. MCN stated that the new frames have the brace fitted as well. I know that on aircraft if you strengthen one area of a frame that is weak and cracks have previously been found the stresses are sent to another area and you end up chasing bloody cracks up and down the airframe (trust me, civilian airliners are worse!) I am sure though that the boffins at Suzook have done the right thing.

It is a shame because I really like the K5 too, much better looking than the new crop of GSXR 1000's.

Still don’t think it'd put me off buying one at the right price-if the work had been carried out properly.

Anyway, I digress...as long as Suzuki sort their crack problem...wouldn’t want to see any at that ghey parade in Aus

Hmmmnnnn, soul....... I have changed my views on this subject over the last 3 years . It seems like all the bike journalists like to quote 'soul' and 'too easy to ride'. It's all just bollox IMO. A K5 GSXR1000 with a Yoshi fitted growling out of a tight left hander with the front and inch off the deck! What more do you want! Soul to me now means poor handling or may not start next time I go out to it!
The Storms are easy to ride on the road and start first time (usually) and dont fall apart at the first touch of winter ,that means journos would say it had no soul........... absolute shite!!!

No Tim, sorry, I totally disagree. There is NEVER a good reason to buy a Harley

Just a thought...Maybe it's the Jurno's who don't have a soul and they just write whatever bull the manufactures want to hear so they can keep on getting free test rides

For me, it’s more about "character”, and again, you define that how you want

Every bike I've ridden has it. It’s just some have it in spades and others don't. Personal preference I suppose.

Don't think I could easily go back to an IL4 tbh. Borrowed blisteringly fast 1000's and they don't do much for me at all. That’s not to say I wouldn’t buy another in the future as my tastes/priorities change

Twins whether air cooled, liquid, transverse, parallel or “V”, bla bla...just appeal to what I want from a bike and how I ride. There noise alone is brill

I’ve got the Buell atm as I wanted something completely different. I love it-but I can totally understand how/why others would hate it-revs out quick, relative low power output, funny looks, "Harley" connection ...

Suppose the moral of this all is it wouldn’t do for us all to be the same and the most important thing is where all on 2 wheels, even Lee
