Hello All

Looking to get back into a firestorm after a year or two away.

Sold my firestorm, tried a VFR and an Africa Twin, now decided to come back.

Got a couple to look at this week so fingers crossed !!

Hi, hope you find a good'un.

There was one went for £551 the other day on E-Blag, bent forks, no plastics but do-able, I thought....
If I'd been in the house when it ended I might have had a spare one to offer you!

Just wondering what is the best to go for >>>>

Lowish mileage or just condition.

What sort of mileages are acceptable before problems occur or major maintenance is reqired.

For example : looked at an absolute minter but was a bit put off as it had 35K on the clock but then looked a one with only 9K on the clock which was cheaper but had just had new cushdrives and a full fork rebuild / service (unless it had had a very hard life I wouldnt have thought thoise things would be needed at that sort of mileage!!)

Your advice / pointers would be much appreciated

By the way I am only looking to spend 2K max ! and would like to spend less if poss to leave some cash for a few goodies

Chris

My sister used to live in Upholland !!

Getting itchy fingers now - my VFR is being collected tonight so need a VTR ......... NOW !!

Dont want to offend anyone but all the ones for sale locally seem to be red and that is probably the only colour i wouldnt have ....... supersticious thing !!

Chris,
The Firestorm not being a really high revving engine, normally going on is capable of high mileages giving very little trouble. One of our members iirc has done over 100,000mls on his. As Timbo mentions weak points are the CCT's (cam chain tensioner) and rectifier, which if replaced or modified before they fail they're not over expensive to do, especially if you can do the work yourself.

The forks are not brilliant as standard, but there are plenty who are still using them as they are. Some owners have them up-graded for better handling and also to compliment the front end replace the rear shock for something better. Doing those two mods will really transform the bikes handling, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Chris.
