Timbo wrote:PB for May has a really good article on the SP1 versus modern sports bikes. Weird cos i thought the SP WAS a modern sports bike

Did well anyways so i guess it is modern!

Also got an EXCELLENT article on some bloke called Dave Ward who has a ZRX1100 bored out to 1200 that he has "sorted out" and uses to spank R1s and Blades etc, watch out you Blade owners :)
Bring it on

I bought it on Saturday.

Its a good article. The SP in the mag is a very nice example chucking out 127BHP...5 more than the latest Mille its tested against

It got me thinking how much I'd still really like one at some point...

Its a drag bike surely, need a HGV licence to ride it! I like standard ZRX's a la Timbo's

Very interesting, the Prilla must have been a bad one though! Many many tests have been done with the SP and the factory (or old R)Mille and the factory Mille came out on top (only just though)! Great to see the SP doing so well against the newer competition. The 1198 cant be all that if a 130 ish BHP twin is that close (good handling or not!) They should have thrown a modern thou IL4 in the mix just as a comparison.

Why is it that the bloomin testers always rave about the GSXR750? Drives me nuts! 3 years ago it was a definate player but you now have extremely light and agile thous that can out drag /out handle the 750 and cost about the same to buy so why bother! Why put one in this test! Why are the testers suddenly raving about the SP when all they could do originally was slate it for various negligable slow speed anomalies. Sounds to me like they are bored of testing the new R1 against the Blade :whatever We all know how good the SP is and know that it will stay with the modern metal in the real world (it was a world superbike after all!) I am just fed up with bike journos, sorry

No probs Mike, thats very kind of you :) I'm sure we'll both be out and about together at some point this soon.

The SP is the only sports bike I could really go for at the minute...don't got me wrong, if I had 12g spare I'd be tempted to look at 1198, but I don't have anywhere like that kind of money!

I've always had a massive soft spot for SP's. Ever since Edwards bombed everyone in Superbikes on it and Joey (my hero :biggrin) took it round the TT in fine fashion. They're such an iconic bike for me and in a strange way not typical of Honda :? Must be that HRC thing, ala RC30 etc...

If money will permit I'll be on the hunt this year...like I've said before they're only going to appreciate in price now and I want to get my mits on one before the horse has bolted :biggrin

No. You can have too much of a good thing, IMO.
