RAC and AA route planner.

Goin oor holidays next Fri , driving down to Poole on the South coast, so i decided to check out route recommendations as per AA and RAC website's route planners.
Was amazed to find they give different routes ,AA route is via Bristol then Bath/Warminster................Rac route is bypassing Oxford, Newbury and Southampton , and this is my usual route i take every year.
Makes you wonder why they don't come up with the same route though

Any difference in the mileage? or times?
I'd of thought M6, M5, M4 and then either shoot down through Chippenham or Bath would be quickest.

AA - Fenwick,Ayrshire - Poole ,Dorset -- 453 miles ,8hrs 10 mins ----via M6/M40/A34 Southampton
RAC - Fenwick,Ayrshire - Poole ,Dorset -- 477 miles, 8hrs 20 mins ----via M6/M5/M4 Bristol/Bath/Warminster.
I kind of know the Bristol route,sos i went to Cornwall that route ,and also been to Longleat Safari Park at Warminster from Poole ,so i know most of it .
We always go by the route the AA are reccommending ,but even at 8am the traffic starts to tail back around the New Forest area.
I probably wont make up my mind till im half way through my journey

Leaving here Fri @ midnight Tim,so roads will be ok,thats the idea anyway.
Sometimes we fly down, but usually we leave at Mid-day Fri to drive down ,and go into Cherwell Valley travelodge at Bicester/Oxford,...the problem with that is by the time we go for breakfast on the Sat mornin, and leave for the south coast, the fookn roads are chockablock

Especially with the Kids breaking up for summer.
I've seen Que's on the M5 southbound 20 miles north of Bristol at 9 in the morning. It's not uncommon.
Only problem with today's traffic is one bump and it all comes to a stand still.
