Hi from Devon
Just picked up a firestorm in need of some tlc.
I have been quoted £600 for cam chain and tensioners to be fitted does this sound about right?
I know that sounds like a dodgy start but it is just a precautionary measure as the bike has done 30,000 miles with no record of them being changed and the previous owner said last time he started it it sounded strange.
But the price was to good to turn down.

what they said £600 to change the CCTs is a tad on the side!

if you have a bit of savvy with spanners n the likes its possible to do it yourself.. i managed to bungle my way through it... with a bit of help here n there.
the guys on here have written step by step guides and if you are having probs you will get a reply from some one fast enough...

Thats not tad on the expensive side thats butt raping you then comming back for 2nds and then some. Wow what ever garrage told you that I would stay well away from.

Quite a big job that. Not too bad a price if you ask me.
WHy don't you just see how far out the timing marks are off. If they are pretty close you probably don't need to have the chains replaced and it will be a fraction of the price to just replace the tensioners.

I'm inclined to agree with Pete.L that the cam chains won't necessarily need changing, but of course if you want to then that's your choice. Remember though there are two cam chains on this engine compared to an inline four which generally only has one, so more work involved.

All so as Pete says there is quite a fair amount of work involved in replacing the cam chains on a V twin engine.

Fitting just new CCT's is not too bad a job to do for someone who knows what they are doing.

Ok thank for the advice.
Will try the cct's first then.
Will be great to get back on the road last bike was a cbr600 so this will be a complete change for me.
