Right ,maybe this should be in the computer section ........anyway........

Bought our youngest daughter an Ipod Touch ,so currently downloading Itunes on the PC for her right now, thing is ,its saying 12 hours 30 mins to download it 8O ,is this normal ?

I dont even know if she needs Itunes, as she wont be buying tunes ?, she wants to download 'Limewire' and get music that way ,is this safe to do ,regarding getting ccaught for illegal downloads ,.....also is it safe regarding maybe getting a virus?

Ive just done a broadband speed test ,i'm getting a download speed of 3760 Kbps ,which seems fine .

Cheers

She needs itunes to transfer music onto her ipod. Dont use limewire, it's wombles fiddler and guaranteed to screw your pc up and it'll catch every nasty thing going around.

*cough* bit torrent *cough*

google it if you dont know what they are. Or, alternatively, tell her to get her hand in her pocket and stop looking for something for nothing (as if I've ever paid for anything).

Aye ,i had heard Limewire was dodgy,so fook that !!........... what about the download time (12hours) for itunes,...normal?....just let it get on with it ?

Edit, ....ffs....its now saying 22 hours remaining :(

Ive only ever dowloaded a few cd's and maybe 3 movies, it was a while back , but i'm sure i used 'BTJUNKIE' and 'utorrents'.........so maybe she could use them .

Any other recommendations?

I use Limewire - (mac version) For somebody not interent savvy it's a portal into the shady side of the the interweb.

In its preferences you can filter out adult content / keywords etc but still a lot of files can be deceptively titled and harbour all kinds of dodgy content from pron to virus riddled nasties.

http://forum.limewire.org/showthread.php?t=5005

Though you can see feedback on the file before downloading by clicking on it/rt click and goto the advanced options

LW doubles as a bittorrent app but I wouldn't really recommend it for kids to play with 1) for what they can get un/intentionaly get exposed to 2) the risk of trashing the PC

Surprised it's taking so long to d/l itunes as apple's servers are normally very good- Are you getting it directly from the Apple site

http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Testing it on my Mac with 1.1mb/sec - 85mb less than a 1 minute

I remember when the main problem after Christmas was not having the correct batteries for all the toys, but now you have to be an IT wizard, downloading, authorising, enabling, initialising, and the kids are bored with the gift before you have worked out how to get you PC logged on.:Computer Punch:

I put some tangerines in the kids stockings this year, and they have threatened to call childline on the grounds of mental cruelty.

Kids today…….I am officially a Grumpy old bastdad :deadhorse1:

If you've run the installer then itunes should be in your app folder - Is there now a itunes shortcut on your desktop?

just having the post Christmas present nightmare with one myself.
Gave the wife an I-Touch 8Gb, and because we have Windows 7 64 bit it won't run; apparently the driver won't load on 64.
I'll get onto Apple tech on Wednesday after all of the Bank Holiday nonsense is out of the way., they can remote onto my m/c and fix it themselves, lazy b8stard that they are.

But the download only took about 20 minutes, even with the wet twisted barley straw we have as a so-called "Broadband"connection out here in the sticks.
At least it's better on damp days.

Thanks, Wicky, I'm on that version. Although it works fine with Vista it doesn't work with Win 7 64 bit.

According to the Apple forums it isn't unusual to find Win 7 64 bit giving problems with the Touch.

Found two "guaranteed fixes" browsing, both had Trojans!

Regards downloading music you could try http://www.mp3panda.com

You have to pay for the music but it's $0.50 per album so about 30p. It's a Ukranian site and my friends and I have used it for years with no probs regarding credit card details. And best of all it says it's legal so it must be alright regarding the law!
