set up a paypal link for subscribers m8, i dont mind chipping in a fiver.
it is a vbulletin site yeh??
you can get a life license for about a 1er iirc, with all the upgrades etc, well worth doing...
i know some folk who do good reliable hosting if it's something you want to consider - gaming servers etc, high bandwidth usage, so a small forum like this would be crouton all ££ tbh

I thought there used to be a thread related to making donations somewhere?
You took the thoughts straight out of my bonce Tim-I think its a good idea. I was just thinking similar things the other night tbh.
With the amount of time I spend on here and the amount of hassle its saved over the past few years I'd be quite happy to donate some cash to the running of the site.

Firestorm Al who runs/own the site occasionally asks for donations when the coffers run dry, maybe Cuppa will know more about the server and the funds as he contacts him from time to time, i don't think Al stops by much any more.

use a host with unlimited transfer bandwith. >>>
http://www.one.com/en/transfer
and have a paid featured advert monthly on the fourm home page in the header, used be members or by 3rd partys.
in my expeiance with fourms with hierarchy/tier style memberships it's not good you get a im better than you attitude from certain members.
the only place i have seen it work well has been here,
http://preto.me/ im now banned tho saying that for trying to sell my ps3 when i crashed my bike.

No wonder you crashed.
You can't concentrate on a game while riding, if for no other reason that winter gloves are too thick to press just one button at a time.
Leave it alone until it's warm enough for summer gloves.

Cut down on avatars! or transfer hosting to
http://www.bigwetfish.co.uk/hosting/
What's the redline on bandwidth with the site currently?
One of my cricket websites which is mainly busy in the summer doesn't come near the 30Gb per month bandwidth limit, even with 600 hits per day and file downloads etc
Tony - did ya get ya pics okay?

i think its hosted with the starter pack
http://www.uk2.net/web-hosting/
it must be the low one because i dont see how else this site can use bandwith other than text and sheer number of posts because all images used are outsourced and not held on the server, same with videos, you could post as much sh1t as you like images pics etc on this fourm and that alone shouldnt push bandwith up as they are not being drwan or called on from the firestorm host uk2.net
and as for avatars they take up bugger all disk usage.
its a bloody rip off of a host to for what they offer.

I think £10-£15 is fair, but then you get the added problem of accounts/where's the money etc, but I can see the merits of it and perhaps any surplus could go to charity, say, Riders for Health?

I would donate to the running costs of this site .........
but the reason I started using the site was that the advice was excellent and the forum was accessible and free. Some valuable future members with good knowledge may be put off . I will go with the flow though.

I've no problem with making a donation
but I do know two other sites which have become "paid" sites and it caused them both to collapse pretty quickly. Whilst I like the idea of having the security and maybe even some form of status or sense of belonging, i do wonder if we will shoot ourselves in the foot in the long run. I think a lot of people just wouldn't bother and would pass us by if they had to pay.

Paid for is a big no. But a donation system with a reward scheme might be okay with like locked acress to the workshop and sales n wants might work but a better surgestion alltogether would be to duplicate the existing database and tranfer that and the domain to a host with unlimited bandwidth.

i don't mind myself but appreciate that some people aren't as fortunate.

im sure there's enough who are prepared to chuck in and dont want a medal for it.
alternative is a site bladdered with ads

I agree with Sebs scheme of voluntary donations that unlock access to certain areas of the forum, but keep the general chat areas etc. free for all.
I am unemployed at the moment

, but do not mind contributing to the running of the forum as I see it as a valuable source of knowledge and enjoy the usual shannanigans of its more colourful members
