My Little "Special" VTR

Hi to everyone,

I'm now in this forum, my name is flavio and i'm italian. excuse me for possible error in translation, but english is'nt my motherlanguage... It's difficult for me explain all the works on my bike, but I try...
I've buy a used firestorm other 2 years ago from my friend, and i've started to work on it whit a project: make a "only track" bike, light and expecially... unique!
I've found this forum only today, but are 2 years that i work on my bike, in my garage.
I've started my work whit removing all not necessary for the track use, disassembling all of the engine for control, and making some parts in carbon fiber: i've make a new, biggest airbox whit front snorkel (like SP2 models) and new fairing (are a "mix" of many bike... some parts of FS, some of SP2, and some, like the fuel tank and the bottom fairing, of a RS250GP)
I've removed the sub-frame and make a new tail in kevlar and carbon fibre, and it not necessity of a sub-frame.
Then, i've mounthed a pair of Marvic magnesium wheel, whit a pair of Brembo racing disk. they have a large offset, so i've change the triplee clamps whit news at measure (larger than original). I've each change the original forks whit a upside-down unit, a 43mm Ohlins, and the brake calipers whit TripleBridge by Brembo. I've recently found each a Ohlins shock.
The frame was modified and reinforced, for a better stabilty. I have ask to Team Rumi "how to do" this mods. After the mods, i've painted in black whit powder-coated paint.

I try to explain better whit some pics of my work...

Image

in this photo, you can see the carbon fiber tail and the engine remounted on a old frame (now i have another)

Image

this is the new air-box. The cover of this it's the fuel tank.

Image

Other view of the air-box.

Image

The snorkel

Image

Other pic of the snorkel, whit the channel for connect the airbox.

Image

The complete system...

Image

The rearset... home made whit milling machine...

Image

Other pic of the rear set...

Image

The tail.. it's made in kevlar and carbon, it's very similar to the SP, but if you look better is'nt the same...

Image

this is "the caos"... in this pic, i've finish to control and reassembled the engine and the swingarm...

Image

about the engine, this is one of the mods i've make... i don't use stator/alternator, the system it's a "full-lose" battery, so I've lightened and balanced my flywheel... it's very light than the original, and the engine catch rpm very fast...

Image

other mods of the engine, was a greater oil radiator whit 6 coolant elements.

Image

other pic of the radiator...

Image

the exhaust system: it's a complete system, made by Team Rumi... i'm very lucky, because it is'nt in commerce, and it was mounthed in a race bike of italian SBK...

Image

the cell of the quick-shifter... it's a Starlane PowerShift, full regolable.

Image

this is a milled piece for mounthing the tail and reinforce the rear of the frame... it' the upper part of the installing point of the shock...

Image

Here you can look where it mounth. You can look each the cutted part of the frame, where originally fit the sub-frame.

Image

The reinforced frame, near the steering.

Image

...after the painting...

Image

...and after the painting of the frame, i've decided to piant each the heads, but in red...

Image

The project of the triplee clamps... finally, i've dediced to go whit a lower measure of the original offset... it's 30mm.

Image

From paper... to 7075 Aluminium... not finished...

Image

the bottom clamps...

Image

This is a old photo... i've try 3 different type of forks first to decide...

Image

The clutch it's a semi-radial unit, and came from a 1098.

Image

The ohlins forks... i've decided to use this, finally...

Image

and the shock... (each for the shock i've try 3 different type....)

Image

the triplee clamps, finished and anodized...

Image

... installed on the bike, whit the forks...

Image

other pic...

Image

...and other...

Image

...and other...

Image

the fuel tank... this is the upper side of air-box

Image

other view point...

Image

...and other...

Image

A very old photo... i've decided to change the colors, and here you can see the old frame, old type of forks, old exhaust... but in this photo you can look the fairing, the tank and the tail installed on the bike...

Image

Other old photo... the bike now it's very different...

Image

Now i'm waiting to reasolve some electrical problems, and have to finish the painting of the fairing... but the work it's near to finish...
i've aech to do some works on the swingarm... whit a braced reinforce.
The engine it's like the original, except the flywheel mod, the full-system exhaust, airbox and the dynojet kit... in the future, but only after i've try my bike on the track, i want to decide if upgrade whit HC pistons, camshafts, and working on the heads...
I think I've forgot something about all my works... but if i remember I will update this 3ad...

Mi amore!

The VTR even in standard handles well on track with great driveability out of the corners you will take many more powerful bikes. Your skills are fantastic. Well done!

PS, this forum is better than the SuperHawk Forum as it's more relevant to you in Italy!

Congratulations on such a great bike, I'm looking foward to seeing it fully painted and buzzing around a track!

Well done!
Great machining skills.

Any chance you could post a masterclass in Carbon laying?
