Just started work as a carer in the comunity after 3.5 years in a sh1t job .what a eye opener it is ,its a hidden world of people with all sorts of problems . I tell you none of us realise how f**kin lucky we are to just be able to get up and and put are clothes on,go to the bathroom and feed ourselves

Your right In my job....(Nursing) I see allsorts of really tragic people, and some really odd ones two, from the 'drug user' I caught in the ward toilets injecting into the veins on his willie......to the guy with a huge laceration on his thigh right down to the bone..."I just rested the circular saw on my leg for a second" to the time I went out with a heath visitor............."Whatever you do, don't acept a drink, and don't sit down' fair enough I thought as we went into the living room on a typical deprived estate...........in the corner was a pile of hay and in the middle of the living room a DONKEY surounded by the inevitable piles of poo.

Worst time was on the spinal injuries unit at Pinderfields...........quadrapelgics many of them not yet 20 years old, can't even cough by them selves, physiso had to pound on their chests to bring up phlegm. And if you get them out of bed in the morning they pass out, it seems they need a drug to bring up their blood pressure before being moved up right. In a normal bloke a hormone is released just as you start to wake up to raise your BP to prevent you fainting when you stand up.......................................thats why us blokes wake up with a stiffy by the way............sorry girls nowt to do with you.

Good on yer, mate; I'm an area manager for Supported Living in a learning disabilities company.
Really makes you feel good about earning a living, and seeing what you do making a difference.

Only fly in the ointment is that I've got a new company car coming, so can't use the bike for work, even though I've got business insurance on it

from me too matey, i did agency in the comunity for a couple of years and auxillary nursing at QMC nottingham for 3 years, miss the work but not the late followed by an early shift and the shite pay!

We do lot's of varying work where I'm employed.

Agree 100%.

Makes you reflect on things in a different light tbh. I think it's a benifit, in some respects, to be involved in this aspect of life though tbh.

I admit it's all too easy to take things for granted when you can do those simple (for anyone who is well that is) everyday things yourself. What a different life we would have if we couldn't.

I admire all who work in any department where caring for others is your job. It takes a special person IMHO to do this type of work, but it's good that people like yourselves can.

Yes I know the pay aint great and the work can be lets say dificult at times but from where I have come from its not so bad .in my second week someone said thank you and well done something I never heard in 3.5 years in the last job it was more like why dont you f**k of back to where you come from and that was the management on a good day.
Plus im not lifting 3 tonns a day and being out and about in cornwall on a sunny day is quite nice , It could be a lot worse
