I've sold my VTR as I really wanted an SP1 - there's one on evil-bay that I'm looking at - item number 170550662782. Thoughts anybody, I dont want to pay an arm and a leg...

Thanks Mike - I can get the valve clearances done quite easily. I'm not looking to spend over £2200 at most...

£2200 for an SP! You may well be asking for problems. Good luck ,though I would look for a more std example. Why was it resprayed? It may well be a good bike but with 30+K on the clock it will always be a struggle to move on.

Beamish / Mike

Been thinking about it over night and you're dead right - I'm going to leave it. Why is the clock cracked? Why was it resprayed as the classic red scheme is the way it should look.

I've seen some Cat D bikes on e-bay which is another route that I'm definitely not going down. Done that before based on a cheap buy but they're never worth more than 50% of the intended value.

I'll keep looking - a couple have recently completed on e-bay at the right money, so I'll hold tight.

looking at the questions he states its not on the insurance reg! respray in sp2 cplours??? yes its black n red but not that design  but if the valve clearences aint a prob for you i'd say go and look at it (no i dont know the owner) a winters fettleing, strip down and clean up and you could have a nice sp! (not as nice as mine tho) :biggrin its worth a look at that money and could be a bargain...

I've left him an e-bay message asking to call me, so lets see what happens with the reply. Gut feel is telling me to leave it and wait for another.

Like FSM says there have been a few fluttering around the 3000 mark-very nice ones too.

Its definatley a buyers market at the minute if you have the cash-there are loads of good bikes avaliable at silly money. That's a recession I suppose-good for some, bad for others :(

The one you have seen is probably that price for a reason-agreed though-the guy is'nt asking over the odds price wise I suppose. The mileage, plus respray and lack of service history ring alarm bells for me-if it was standard with all the boxes ticked it might be a different proposition. It should have had the valve's done twice over at that mileage :eh: I'm about to sort mine over the next week or so.

I'd save a bit more cash and get a soild, standard bike-saw a nice one on fleebay the other week for about £2600.

If it does need a full service budget for the parts-shims are about £3 each, air filters (x2) are at best £40+, oil filter £5-£10, plugs-depending on what you get-are £8-£25 each 8O, plus oil and then brake pads, fluids etc should you need them.

If you do get one you'll love it-they are a very, very good bike. Mine gives me a grin each time I fire it up  It still holds with new stuff easily too in the most-the bike is ace to ride. Has a much more organic feel than the new crotch rockets imo and it turns heads wherever you park it.

Enjoy

Thanks guys, he didnt come back in time anyway. I also followed the blue one on E-bay that went for £2050 yesterday too but that was not what I wanted.

I'm going to keep looking - I've set myself a budget, I'm mechanically sound so work on a bike is not an issue.
