99 VTR - Anything specifically to look out for?

So I've got an opportunity to trade an 89 RZ 350 for a 99 VTR 1000 Firestorm (I'm in Canada).

It's a deal I'm considering but just wondering if there are any gotchas or known issues I should be concerned with when going to check the bike out.

I've done some research and see that Honda did do an overhaul in 2001 on the bike but wondering if there is anything I should be on the look out for specifically.

It's got 35,000KM on it and would appear (from the pictures) to be in excellent shape.

manual camchain tensioners & regulator/rectifier is about the only mods you will need to make it relable...
take it for a spin tho - it will be a lot different than the 350 to ride lol :biggrin

Lets say I get the bike and have to do both the mods.

$ wise how much am I looking at spending to get both issues straightened out.

Yep, should have a LOT more pep than the 350 :-)

rider on a storm is doing some excellent tensioners for not a lot of dosh.
ape are more than twice the price & imo aren't as good.
you could take a gamble and leave the oem ones in, but it will be a gamble, and you will more than likely lose!

the r/r... have a look at it first and see if it is the finned type, (it's about 1/3 way along, under the tailpiece on the right of the bike.
if it's the later finned type leave it alone, it probably wont fail.

damn good bikes the firestorms

if it has digital clocks & a honda wing on the tank it is the later model with the 19L tank
