hi people

i thought i'd join this site as im looking to get a firestorm this summer. currently i got a cbr600fy which is restricted but i've been riding for 3 years neraly now so i could take the restricter off but i've always wanted a twin and i got one lined up off a mate when i sell my cbr. the storm its black got new chain and sprockets, new tyres, new micron cans £1400 on a t plate. is this good value??? about 28000 miles too.

i wanted to know about the fuel tank on these bikes. is there any replacements for the older storms to increase the tank size?? i've read things about older vfr tanks which could fit but would it be just as cheap getting a custom one built?? any help would be great

dont worry about the tank size m8, you can get a 19L off a later model 02+ but to be fair the range isnt much different than any other sporty bike.
1400 is a average price for a decent condition storm on a T

theres still a few for sale here as well i think...
expect prices to go up as it gets warmer though

Welcome to the forum and get the storm. I made a post on here about my first proper ride out on the storm because normally its a hog to go to and from work with. I summed it up as a great bike and the small piss poor tank range didnt mean anything in comparison to the fun I have riding the thing. So what if you dont get as far as Rob on his R1 in a single tank. So what if you have to stop every 5 miles to feed the beast. You'll arrive comfortable while R1 Rob has to iron out the creases in back.

Add to that the power delivery and you'll be hard pushed not to be grinning. Especially the difference between the 600cc machine that you have now. The only thing you should be warned of before you buy one is the engine braking. On an Inline 4 you release the throttle and gently slow down. Do the same on the twin and its like an extra disk brake. I rarely use my brakes on the bike so brake pads and disks last longer.

Trust me, You'll love it. You wind that power up and the gentle whirring whistle of the engine gets drowned out by the clatter of the exhaust pipes and you'll smile like an idiot until you stop!

28K isn't a problem, you'll need to be happy that the CCT's and RR get attention or have already been done, apart from that, it's a fair buy for that money, especially if it's tidy and has new boots and a year's MOT.
There's cheaper out there, but if you're buying from a mate then haggling too hard might cause friction, and it's not unreasonable for a good one.

just like the others,i say the Firestorm is a fantastic bike to ride, you'll have a big smile on your face every time you ride it just a pitty that everyone else can't see that big grin hidden inside our helmets but never mind we all know it's there

I bought mine in 2001 and still like it ,iv'e tried other bikes but can't see me changing it anytime in the next century

thanks guys for all the replys and thanks for the advise. i suppose i'll defo feel the difference from the 600 to the storm. what i dont get is that the insurance for the storm is the same for my 600 in terms of grouping. i know that the 600 has a higher top end, if only by a small margin but for what u get in the storm, a 1000 twin, 2 loud cans and honda quality, why stay with the 600??

any where i can look for belly pans other than ebay. i've had a look a few times and the ones i usually see are from germany, not finished, made from flimsy plastics and 70-80 quid.

any good breakers out there for bikes???

Why is it my 2nd hand bikes rarely have new tyres, chain and sprockets fitted before I purchase them

The price seems pretty fair to me as well, with out actually seeing the bike of course.

My advice is to test ride it before buying one if you've not already ridden a Firestorm before. It's a completely different bike to your CBR600 that needs plenty of rev's to get it moving,

I totally agree - I've had mine 18 months now, done 10k on it, and I still grin like a nutter every time I ride it!
You won't be disappointed with a Firestorm - and don't worry about the tank range, it really isn't such a big problem - and the bonus is that every petrol stop presents you with an opportunity to look at your bike admiringly and think, "that's mine!"

But DO get your CCTs sorted!

dont worry, i wont be giving it the beans at the lights and as u put it, pulling stones from my butt cheeks.lol

what am i looking for with regards to the CCT??? and is it advisable to get a new honda one or are there stronger aftermarket ones out there??
