Rusty riding skills after a few months off!

Not been out on the storm since October

have now fitted my manual CCT's so decided to go out for a blast.
Two things I noticed immediately, firstly I forgot how deceivingly quick the storm is

secondly I couldn't ride at all ! Every corner I came to I felt very unsure, forgot my lines, braking too early etc etc.
Does anyone else have this problem after a lay off? TBH my riding is not great at the best of times but today I felt especially bad.

All riders that take the winter off feel a bit rusty in the spring mate, I find the run out is a bit messy but after a brew and a chat the run home feels a lot more together. Dont worry just dont push it till you feel the confidence return, it will in good time.

Thanks Beamish, hopefully a few more rides and I will at least be back to last years standard, not that that was great !
One thing I did notice was that I seemed to be dodging a lot more pot holes this year, the winter has taken its toll on the roads !

yes I was the same when I went out in Feb for the 1st ride, for me it was recalibrating the brain to the distances and speed differentials and I sure felt rusty. I ride dirt bikes all winter, but the amount of data that you need to process riding fast on the road was overloading my simple brain.
but after the magic tea stop it all came back and by the end of the 250mile day, I was much more up to speed..........about 75% of the pre hibernation skill level.
Pehaps the trick is to drink the tea before you go out
But it is real, and you dont want to get into a macho contest with your mates when you are out the 1st few times, till you are back up to speed.
