Chain adjustment

Post by Lurker »

Could anyone tell me the right size spanners I need to adjust the chain on my VTR?I have no tools at all at the moment and would prefer to only buy the tools I need.
Also any advice on what types of tools would be handy for minor maintance would be much appreciated too.

not sure on the nut size for chain adjustment mate, a decent socket set and some allen keys and screwdrivers, i think the rear wheel nut is about a 28 or 29 mm but wait for confirmation on that, argos do a small mechanics set for £60 worth a look mate or try halfords,

27mm for the big nut, 24mm for the small nut then 8mm for the adjusters.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

keep your eye out for an original VTR tool kit on ebay, they come up now and again, picked mine up for 15 quid, and that will have all the tools you will need to get you started.

where do ya live fella, someone will be near you to aid you with tools.

27/24/8mm - get good offset ring spanners in these sizes. Easier to use than sockets, open ended spanners won't fit either, and slip off...

Get a Velcro wrap tie and they'll go under saddle with no worries!
