Just a lil note to say hi !
I'm a new owner of a 1999 vtr1000f and it's blue.
Sadly I didn't take the opportunity to read up on here before I purchased an have now learned the hard way, yes you guessed it ! Cct broke after 26 miles then after fitting a replacement the timing chain slips and then a so called spanner who attempts to re-time it claiming it's 100% spot on returns it back to me 180 degrees out

My only saving grace so far has been the detailed info found here on the forum !
I'd like to say a big thankyou to delmeekc for his posts and any others that contribute to the wealth of info found here !
THANKYOU !

Welcome to the club mate...............sorry to hear your initiation has been so bad............26 miles into ownership must be some kind of record for bad luck............. but you have now found out the hard way and can help others to ensure they dont do the same.

Not the best start....
And name and shame that half-witted mechanic, so we can all avoid them.
Hi!

That's bad luck Free2go, sorry to hear about that. I have my Firestorm about 4 weeks now. After reading about the cct failures here on the forum I am afraid to ride hard until I fit manual ccts.
Lucky I have another bike to ride until I get sorted. There is a member in vtr1000.org that makes them but I haven't permission to PM him to ask for a set.
I find it more satisfying to do my own spannering even if it takes a while, at least you know the job is done right when you are finished.
Ride safe.

Then I wish him no further harm; living in Luton is punishment enough.

Bazza696 for manual conversions, Rider on a Storm for copies of the APE ones.
Or Pont on E-Bay.

Or just do the stopper mod that is described in the workshop section, and you have auto adjust but fully failsafe. Costs nothing, saves hundreds.......have a read, but it's what I have in both my engines .

Wow !
Thanx for the speedy response's !
Just looked at philpont on ebay and £65.00 for a pair delivered sounds like a wise investment. But........ has anyone actually tried these as they look like they could be troublesome to actually lock off. The rear wouldn't be so much the problem but the front may be an issue.

Well spotted, the coolant pipe gets in the way.
That's why I use Bazza's ones, the locknut is high enough to sit above that pipe.
That, and the fact that he only charges £35 plus p+p

much easier to fit & adjust the front cct with the carbs off.
you wont have to adjust them again for a good 10k+ so it's not like you have to meddle with them every week like some seem to think....
getting on for 20k now without adjusting mine and its just starting to get a bit rattly, thats seriously hard riding since last june with no fiddling with cct's
