Well, looking at the weather forcast for this weekend a ride out into the Boarders looks unlikely . Not many weekends left before I take my bike off the road [end of September] until next spring. Good job my other hobby of Competition Ploughing kicks in this weekend rain or shine

You can always rely upon the weather to interrupt your plans.

Why restrict yourself by not riding all year round? It’s not as if a FS/VTR is worth thousands and needs cosseting to protect your investment, hell you’d struggle to give one away at the moment!

Get yourself some good waterproofs and get out there!

Im with you Opel, it stays on the road until the gritters come out and then thats it until usually early March when the rains washed all the salt off the road, but even then it goes out on a good day

Im sorry, but I just dont understand why you would want to go out in the rain?

Personally, I go out on the bike to blast some nice twisty roads as fast as I can. The 'fun' is taking the corners as smoothly and quickly as possible. For me, the wet just means its a dull old bimble pottering around without being able to go very fast for fear of losing grip and sliding in the wet, not to mention that fact that no matter how good your waterproofs are, eventually, you will get some water down the inside of your visor, inside your glooves, probably in your boots and maybe down your neck. Baaahhh....horrible

Quite honestly, I would rather sit in and watch formula 1 than go out in the rain on purpose.

Some of the most challenging and rewarding rides I have been on have been in the pouring rain down tight twisty lanes whilst still having to make good progress. I took my A test in what seemed like monsoon conditions and if I had not practiced in the wet, I would have no doubt failed. You have to develop good throttle control and smoothness to ride in wet conditions if you want to maintain good progress and this in turn increases your confidence in the dry.

But you are right, I wouldn't get up on a Sunday morning and go "OOh its raining, I'm going out for a ride" But if there was one organised, I wouldn't not go because of the rain.

had an 'interesting' ride 2 up last night on a near slick racetec lol.... can't say the weather impeded my progress in the slightest, much to the horror of my passenger.
needless to say i am nursing several thumps today and sore ears!

only thing i dont like in the rain is diesel & other oils on the road = deadly.
i tend to avoid riding in the centre of the lane as that's where the oil usually is.... dont forget, if you notice dots of oil every 30 yards or so, a car has a leak... this will be a lot worse at the next set of lights or roundabout when it has stopped for a bit, so be carefull taking off.

crappy weather atm but it is still warm.... got a few changes to make to the sp then i'll be out.
won't be missing a day out just because allah has decided to wash the roads.

Got to agree with Geo. Whilst riding fast in the dry is a lot of fun, some of the best rides I've had have been in the wet and even commuting in the snow last winter. Lethal but incredibly rewarding.

As for rain, and up north.....I don't like to start a run if it's pissing down but if I am already out, or I have to get up to Scotland, I end up finding I enjoy it???

As long as I have the pinloc visor, the A-star 365 goretex gloves, the water proof socks and my leggins aren't leaking in the crutch you just enjoy getting really smooth, and speed just comes.

I have to say the ride up snake pass and C&F in the pissing rain when we met at silver zippers pub, And both the Welsh meets in the rain have been big grins
