which do i adjust

Post by tattoo »

hi all

i've never had to adjust a rear shock before so...

do i adjust the the rear shock with the c-spanner or the screw to stop the shock sagging when i carry a pillion.
i know the spring was changed to a hyperpro just before i bought it and that all the settings were put back to factory spec by the old owner as he was 4 stone heavier than me...

thanks guy's

A bit of both.

If the last owner was 4st heavier than you, then the spring he fitted will be a bit higher rate than you would need, so you should be running it on minimum preload.
With a pillion I would Add 2 clicks of extra spring preload with the c spanner, and add a bit of extra damping (the screw at the bottom, turn it in, CW) to control the extra weight.

To get the bike to turn in better, you want more ride height on the rear, but don't be tempted to do that with spring preload, it is best done with a spacer under the top shock mount. Lots of info on that in the workshop section.

Eat more pies, and tell the gf to get a bike of her own.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

when we go to the coast on the bike she falls asleep on the way back, which is ok until i stop to fillup, then i have to get the station assistant to come out for the money..

from what she told me she was in a hurry so decided to take a shortcut between godmanchester and buckden,a fantastic road for bikes..anyhow..she rounded one corner and was greeted by 5 horses, she thort there'd would be less damage if she took to the field instead of hitting the horse, hit a rut and the front dug in and over she rolled..

i'm 42 and been riding since i was 16 and only ever had 3 offs..she's 34 and to my knowing she's written off 6 cars including 2 hire cars so just imagine what she'd do with 2wheels....
