Fuel pipe-8mm vs. 6mm?

Post by gilson »

Hi all, firestorm trackbike with stage one tune and consequently the CBR fuel pump modification.

It currently has 8mm ID pipes but I recently purchase a fuel filter, some funky blue fuel pipe and fuel switch but all 6mm ID.

Will this restrict the fuel flow significantly? The reason for the fuel pump modification is because the float bowls being exhausted of fuel too quickly for the standard gravity fed system to provide enough fuel resulting in starvation.

Is there only one way to check this? That is put the 6mm pipe on and give it a blast around the nearest roundabout? Or has some one tried this and finding it doesn't work.

It's not too expensive to purchase new 8mm pipe and fuel filter, but the 8mm fuel taps are bulky compared to the 6mm one.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

my test would be to measure the flow rate by timing how long it takes to fill a 0.25l measure jug

a) normal gravity feed flow with the 8mm pipes
b) Fuel pump and the 6mm pipes

you know that flow rate a) is just below the minimum you need, so as long as test b) is greater than 50% better, I would say you are safe.

That is a good test.

Thinking more about it, the fuel pump is 8mm so I'd have to get a reducer.

I'll just buy some new pipe. Damn.
