Been a while since I last posted but I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I am having on my '97 Storm.
Over the last couple of days my speedo stopped working in 4th gear when accelerating hard but came back when lifting off - it has this morning started to affect other gears mainly 3rd/4th and 5th when under load. Again if i lift off either to change down or slow it comes back but seems a bit 'wavy' and not consistent.............
Any help would be much appreciated !
Thanks

R/R....thats all I'm saying!! Mine started doing this together with the rev counter. On second thoughts perhaps a duff connection to the speedo sensor, mounted on the top rear of the gearbox.
Re: SPEEDO PROBLEMS ??????
Yup, Symptoms sound like the speedo sensor packing up, good luck finding a second-hand one on ebay as the cost for a new one you best be sitting down. It bolts in at the back of the engine next to the rear CCT (hopefully that's been replaced with manuals) and plugin into the loom near the battery.

Still worth checking your R/R esp if you have an early unfinned version, and upgrading to a later finned improved version or a Yamaha alternative.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

SPEEDO PROBLEMS ??????
I had exactly the same problem with the speedo finally giving up the ghost al together. Traced the fault to a snapped wire on a connector behind the front fairing! It had decided to break loose from the block on both sides! Once soldered the speedo worked perfectly
Worth checking the connections and also if the back of the clocks are furry give it a good clean up

Re: SPEEDO PROBLEMS ??????
I got a sensor from a breaker, although I also thought about getting one from the states. Most American parts companies will not deal outside the US but these will http://www.partspitstop.com/ Their prices are rather better than UK also try other US parts people and get the part sent over by a US forwarding company such as http://www.myus.com
The part in the UK is £140 in the US its £38, yes "Thirty Eight"
