Removed restrictions and OCR'd the Honda VTR service manual so it's text searchable
Clue: it's on the sump or Maintenance Chapter 3-10 –3-11. And get a filter wrench on ebay

What version of Adobe Reader are you using? The Manual PDF file should be compatible with Adobe Reader v7.00 and above Try downloading the latest version for your system from Adobe here:

Thanks but is there nobody who can just describe where it is and what it looks like? Done 4 PDF downloads, 2 Adobe upgrades and it's getting dark outside now. Just need to know where the oil sump bolt is to drain it. I put oil in today and noticed the small print on the bottle which says 'gear oil' DOH!! So need to renew the oil before it gets dark as need bike to go work in morning!

Wicky you tease!
Left hand rear corner of sump, on the side not the bottom.
If you need a filter wrench PM me as I have a spare.
If it's any consolation it took me a few minuets to find the seat lock when I first got 'Ole Red!

Done. Thanks for that. Was working in limited light with no torch and didn't want to undo something that wasn't the sump drain.
For one terrible moment there I thought I was going to have to join the 45 min traffic jam to work instead of my 20 min ride LOL.

Hand tight is fine, but don't forget to wipe some clean oil around the seal first.
