1st Firestorm - Hello

Hi guys n gals, bought my first Firestorm yesterday. Rode back the 40 odd miles in the rain on a strange bike in the dark. But was I impressed, I've had Bandit 1200s in the past and I would swear this thing has more pulling power than they did. Superb. It's a silver '98 model, well kept, Venom cans and with 29000 on the clock. Obviously I am concerned about the ongong problem with the CCTs. Looks like it's a must fix item. Have read so many threads on this forum it gets a bit confusing as to which is the best way forward. Looking for someone to point me in the right direction. Thought myself that the change to manual adjusting ones was the best plan. Other than that I look forward to better days and a wee spin out.

Cheers..

welcome to the club mr Lion. :D sounds like a good bike you got there.

as for CCT's there is many solutions and the only thing that people will agree on, is that you have to do one of them [ie dont leave them and hope it will be OK], others say you should go Manual, I say you keep the auto adjuster and fit the stopper mod to make it fail safe. as I said the end choice its yours, but it is a job you should get done over the wnter or early spring.

dont know where you are based, but there will be some workshop days set up in the spring where you can come along and do jobs like swapping CCT's to Manual or fitting a stopper mod, under the instruction of people who have done the job before...........you also get to borrow their tools and drink their tea

I would predict that there will be one in Kent and one in West Midlands as long as Tony and I are here, but there may well be a couple more added depending on enough people turning up to make it worth the effort.

Greetings

My 2p worth is park it up and replace CCTs with manuals ASAP and put all fear of potential top-end implosions behind you. I speak from experience when at 35,000 my front CCT gave up at a leisurely 30mph without warning. £500 and two months off the road to get it fixed.

welcome to the site neeb's. I'm up the other side of the Tay from you and am needing to sort mine out too- previously Jazz ( must be round the corner from you ) had said he would very kindly watchover and make sure I don't follow the Haynes manual while I attempt it.. Was hoping to get mine sorted out over the crimbo hol's. Get them ordered up and lets see if we can have a Northern Workshop- as long as the white stuff stays away..

Sounds like a good plan. I don't have internet access through the week so bear that in mind for any replies. I'll get them ordered asap.

Much appreciated.
