How to fit stick coils
You will need stick coils from a cbr600rr 3-6
And your old coil plugs
Wire cutter
Insolation tap
Soldering iron and solder
Cut the plug of the vtr coil but leave the wires long enough to solder to the cbr's sub loom .
Now cut the cbr's sub loom so you have two wires per plug .
Then solder the cbr's plug to the vtr
Plug
the total length should be rear 37cm and the front 50cm.
those are a bit longer than needed, but better too long than too short
I'd only add that it would be a good idea to have enough slack in the loom wires so that the wires can hang down below the entry point. This will allow condensation or r ain to drip off the wires rather than run down them into the cable entry holes.
Doesn't seem to be affected by rain fitted as is, but it seems a relatively simple safeguard, just in case.
Green vtr to the black cbr's that's the earth
The other colour is the live
Then tape up
Now fit to the vtr's loom
When you have done that its time to test fit the coil and you will find it will wobble
The best way to stop this is to do what amcq46 did .
Cut up the vtr's plug cap and glue in place ,
Now start it up and enjoy as you will now have 2bhp more
Can't ride but it don't stop me trying

dyno proven. details on the superhawk forum, i believe.
2bhp for about half an hour of your time.seb421 wrote:what's the advantages
you have to buy the stick coils and loom, use 2 of them, sell the other 2, sell your std coils, and spend half an hour with some spanners and a soldering iron.seb421 wrote:any disadvantage using this?
so no, none.
When subjected to an electrical voltage of at least 50 volts, a cat's tail always points toward the north.
Re: How to fit stick coils
Seb I have two CBR600RR stick coils & the loom for them for £25 if you are interested.

Re: How to fit stick coils
A small note of realism needed here, this mod as compared to the standard setup can lead to +2hp, but that's only if your standard setup has small inefficiencies, HT leads not as good as they were, but also the chances are that while you're there you'll have fitted new plugs as well......
Having said that, I've done the mod, seems fine.
You just don't get HT lead and connection losses, so a better spark.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: How to fit stick coils
Thanks for the info tony, that was more what i was looking for.
I was wondering how it would get more power as it would surely be igniting the fuel / sparking at the same timing as the original HT leads wouldn't it?
if you use the same spark-plug's its just going to be the same as before isn't it?
unless you advance the timing I dont see how it would bring about a 2bhp increase?
Thanks for the offer Kev, at the moment its not something I feel competent at doing ive never soldered anything before so wouldn't want to wombles up a critical part.
Does any one do the kits ready to install?

Re: How to fit stick coils
that's pretty much exactly what i thought, but the bloke on the 'superhawk' forum dynoed his bike, fitted a set, got 2bhp more, took them off, re-dynoed it, and lost the 2bhp.seb421 wrote:Thanks for the info tony, that was more what i was looking for.

i'll be doing exactly that when mine goes back together, so we'll see.......

Re: How to fit stick coils
Am I right in assuming that you can't detach the HT lead from the standard coils to change the lead for new stuff?
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
Re: How to fit stick coils
The stick coils don't have HT leads at all.Stratman wrote:Am I right in assuming that you can't detach the HT lead from the standard coils to change the lead for new stuff?
The low tension leads clip straight on to the top of the stick coil, which sits like a 15mm diameter tube on top of the plugs.

Re: How to fit stick coils
Sorry Tony, I didn't make myself clear. Forgetting the stick coild for a moment, if I wanted to replace the HT leads on the existing coils - I don't think it is possible to disconnect the HT lead from the actual coil?

Re: How to fit stick coils
it should be.
a clip on the coil and a tug on the lead. its like a bear claw type affair if i remember. just had to do it to my mates thunderace and my brothers zx7

Re: How to fit stick coils
Unscrew HT leads from both ends, The plug cap and coil both have spikes that the centre of the HT lead screw onto. That's why sometimes if your getting a weak spark it can just be a bad/rusty connection and just needs cutting back.
