Second time around

Post by Jetblack »

Hello all.
This is my second Storm. The first being a Y reg.
Found out she had a dubious mileage. I found this out by chance. Gave her some beans (Handfull of large throttle) annd the chain spun on the front sprocket. In the process breaking the chain and doing other damage.
I lost confidence then.
So here i am 6 years down the line buying a 99 version with a charging problem. It comes with some noisey Blue flame cans which will be uo for sale on here soon. Just love the shape of the originals. Plus i dont appreciate drawing unwanted attention from the boys in blue.
Looking forward to joining the forum

Welcome back to the storm, I hope this one is better and like wicky pointed out, the 1st place to start is with the regulator swap.

Welcome aboard Jetblack

Wishing you better luck with this bike.

Here's a starter for you posted by Beast, the rectifier/voltage regulator (as already mentioned) is a weak point if it's the non-finned version:- http://vtr1000f.wickidnet.com/

Hi!

But I think I'd start by checking the chain and sprockets, if it was me.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

C and S good.
Voltage across terminals 8.4v
Battery totally conked.
Is the regulator i need secondhand from a 2004 Cbr 125? If so i can get one for £15.
Batterywise does anybody upgrade to a ytx14bs or won't it fit.
Cheapo or expensive battery?.
Atb and thanks for the welcome

That'll do the trick, fit a new battery and you should be good to go. Next on your list should be sorting the CCTs, Greasing shock linkages and waterproofing the starter connection under the rubber hood. Roll on spring.....

ytx14bs (from the 01-05 Storm) puts out a little nit more ommph and is slightly taller, so you'll need to take the battery lid off for it to fit in your earlier Storm.

Cheapo or expensive battery?. You pays your money and makes your choice but for about £50 you should get something that'll last you a while onnce the R/R is fixed.

a few of us have bought 1 of these and they are big and powerful much like myself....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360382165171? ... 1439.l2649
they have 4 terminals so you can hook up a battery charger very easily, but as wicky said they are a tight squeeze.
