Hi All I have just put my 2002 storm away for the winter tax has ran out so I have declared her sorn as reqd.
I have a garage and have covered her with a couple of dust sheets.

Is there anything I should do maintenance wise before just leaving her for the winter?


I will be selling her about easter time to get something smaller again, lovely bike but I dont need all that power for just cruising around on the weekends.

Covering your garage with dust sheets is overkill, IMHO.

But you might consider putting the bike on paddock stands, to avoid flat-spotting the tyres, if you don't have them then over-inflate the tyres to 60psi, and once a month rotate them a bit.
Remember to let them down again in the spring! Write a note and leave it with your keys.

Lift the front of the fuel tank and turn off the fuel. Start the engine and leave it running until the carbs run nearly dry and it stops by itself.

If you can't do this you can get fuel preservative, but I've never tried this myself, so can't recommend it. It would need a quick ride to get it through to the carbs, not just tipped in the tank.

Push the brake calipers so that the pistons retract slightly. this means that they aren't in close contact with the discs. Both ends of the bike.

In the spring, consider a brake overhaul before you go out, they quite often stick on and overheat.

But it's a Honda, it'll cope with a bit of salt and ice, ride it anyway.

Sorry, but when did need come into it??

This is my winter routine:-
Drain tank then undo carb drain screws with a long screw driver,
Change engine oil and filter,
Remove spark plugs and put about a egg cup full of engine oil in each cylinder,
With plugs attached to leads and earthed spin the motor over and refit with old plugs,
Remove battery and charge ,
Spray whole bike with GT85 not WD40.
Cover with old sheets if left in a garage or shed.
Tyres should be OK if just left over winter on a dry surface.

P.S. All what power?

Careful with spraying with gt80 or similar, don't get it on the discs.
Even if you wipe it off before the spring, it's likely to have contaminated the pads.

im hoping winter is going to be super short this year. i did a little 15 mile spin today and it was v cold but lovely to give the old girl a spin. they havent gritted round here yet so not worried about corrosion. as soon as the weather goes below freezing i keep the battery on trickle.
went to my local lings for a quick look and they,ve got an 05 storm with 32,000 on the clock (nice nick) marked up for £3,095 !.
also had a triumph bloke trying to sell me a daytona 675. very nice little thing but the seat was about 2 or 3 inches higher than the storm? might go for a cheeky test drive when the weather is better?
