Not entirely unconnected is the verbal faux-pas my daughter made when trying to remember the name of bagpipes, and called them airbags.
She is seventeen.
Naturally we have taken the piss unmercifully.
It's a parents' duty, as well as dancing in a strange way at their wedding, and recounting a long but ultimately pointless story in the speeches, omitting to include the punchline to the one potentially amusing joke.
And buying a small but quite tidy car/bike, then another but much cheaper and tattier when they wreck it two weeks later.
Naturally, duties also include making useful comparisons between the parent's first wage packet/year's insurance/price of a night out, leaving change against the current cost of university fees, trainers, and yet drawing no comparison at all between the hemlines on skirts worn by young ladies at bus stops and those worn by your own daughter.
