Insurance and modifications?

I'm sure this has been covered before but a search only found 3 yr old posts.
I'm tempted to start modding the bike ie bars/shock/forks ect.
But what i'm wondering is how many of you declare these to the insurance companies? Some of you have very good looking but heavily modified bikes that could not easily be removed in case of an insurance claim inspection and if the reports in mcn of late are to be believed the insurance firms are clamping down on this and using it void your policy!
What sort of a premium hike is to be expected? I'm only paying £70 TPFNT at the moment and haven't told them about a hugger, hel lines or heated grips if I start to declare blade forks and high bars is it gonna go through the roof?
Suppose that leads me on to the next question, How many of you have made changes to your bikes and have they been significant enough to make you feel it was worth it or was it more a case of trying something new for the hell of it and it not being any better/worse? or a change that you regretted?

you're supposed to tell them everything, literally everything, they're good at taking your money, and better at weaseling out of paying it out.....

but as long as it comes up as insured on the ANPR, who gives a wombles? back in the old days everyone i knew flew about on rigid chops on the standard donor bikes reg plate, insured as the standard donor bike. no one batted an eyelid, including the cops.

Bennets are taking a lot of flak for trying this on with bikers claiming you are only allowed three mods on the Bike.....any more and your uninsured!!!
The net is littered with a very negative response from Bikers on forums, Facebook etc, things got so bad for Bennets they held a "Crisis" Board meeting
.......Serves the Feckers Right!!!!!

I have told my insurer about race pipes, new brakes, new shock, rearsets and belly pan. They didn't add any cost, but said they would only replace the cost of a standard bike. Not ideal, but at least I know they won't try and wriggle out on a technicality if I have a big 3rd party claim.

I have a few mods and as long as it isnt performance enhancing and just cosmetic then you will be ok, and as Al said they will only pay out for a standard bike anyway, so ignition advancers, yellow ohlins, steering dampers, and rear sets etc aint gonna be paid, bashturds.
