New to VTR's

Hi all

I'm new to VTR's and loving it ! What an underrated bike, I can't believe what you can get for your money, having to adjust my riding style to suit the engine braking though, especially now the roads are greasy . A few pictures of my storm below and look out for the stupid questions coming your way :

Nice bike fenner and the best colour and i must say nice and clean aswell like mine.
where did you get that screen from.Or what make is it
And yes there much faster than a yellow or blue or silver

Welcome to the Reds Under the Bed club - Looks a sweet un. Just get those CCTs fixed and R/R sorted and she'll give you good reliable service for many miles. Your brain will readjust quickly to the engine, just take it easy out & about for the first few tank fulls!

R/R = Reg/Rec = Regulator/Rectifier = OEM Honda one will break!

Search in the workshp for a cure!

And why would you need one of them?

Regulates voltage and turns the AC output to DC volts.

The regulator rectifier does what it says. When the engine is running the alternator (generator) produces about 16V to keep the bikes accumulator (Battery) charged; however the battery needs a stable DC voltage at about 13.2V.

so if I stick my optimiser in after I have done rideing it will that do the same thing on trickle charge?
Dumb question but owt what needs doing I pay some one.Ant a clue

No, the optimiser keeps the battery maintained at a full charge. The R/R keeps the voltage to the battery at a steady 13+volts. If it fails the battery receives too many volts, overcharges and basically cooks.

Early (pre2001) R/R s are unfinned and have a nasty habit of frazzling the battery/electrics leaving you stranded - Later ones were upgraded to finned and thus run cooler or fit a suitable Yam or kwack MOSET one. A battery optimiser is no help in such a situation.

Chric: I'm with you on red one's m8 The screen was on it when I bought it and is a Pyramid one, it seems ok but if you catch it from the wrong angle it does look a bit "crazed"

Wicky: it had standard tensioners done just before I bought it so will get them changed shortly, the r/r been done as well, I recon it's a Yamaha one fitted. Regards the engine braking, I've done 2k on it and it still catches me out, always had 4 cylinders under me. I might have to slow down a bit before it catches me out !
