What do people think? For instance the Ducati 763 v VTR?
No, I'm not thinking of changing. Very happy with my Firestorm. Just interested in what the differences are.

horses for courses tbh.... the firestorm is a bike you can ride every day whereas if you do that with the older dukes you will spend as much time fixing it lol.
nearly bought one last year - the 999s.
very nice it was but i dont reckon i could do the same mileage s the storm without problems.

The 749 / 999
At the time i hated the look of that bike mate when launched, couldn't believe how much they shifted from the 998 such radical change, probably why they went back to the old style with the 1098
But now years on i think its a stunner of a bike!! was drooling at one a few month back i saw for sale in 'as new' condition
wierd how time changes things

I have many, many spares for VTR's in my stores shed, and none for Ducati's.

Just my opinion here. Having owned a 2001 Storm a 2000 SP 1 and two 748 Ducati's ( I currently have a 2001 748s in the collection) I can honestly say that the Ducati's have been totally reliable, just as the Honda's were.
I covered 8000 miles on my first 748, no hassle what so ever, never missed a beat and got it serviced at a Honda dealer (Perth Motorcycles) at "normal" bike dealer prices. I paid £2850 for it from a London dealer in a January sale, who delivered it, used it for 18 months and sold it on for £3155 via fleabay.
Very rewarding to ride, I used to do Skye and back in a day 500 miles without any hassle (sore back/a**e following day admittedly)
Build quality has been excellent, no rusting and no elecrical problems.
I would urge anyone who has not owned a Duke to to give it a try as my experience has been brilliant to date.
BTW, I still hanker after a SP2 but keep my Honda allegiance by owning a 2011 new style CBR600F and a 32 year old Superdream for the winter.

bought it off a mate for £200, and I sold it on ebay last year some time for £461 couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the amount of people bidding on it.
bought it when my brother stole my vtr and smashed it to bits and then sold it when i had finished work on the VTR

I had a Ducati 763 and the build quality was exceptional...BUT...bike blew over in the wind at Isle of Man damaging fairing and it took 6 months for the parts to arrive and when they did they were the wrong colour. Had to post them back to Italy (never got the postage payment back) then 3 months later they arrived in the roight colour but wrong pattern. Gave up and bike went naked! The Japs have always been good at parts and after-market sales.

I have both, but not ridden the 750ss yet
And it seems to weight about the same as a moped

Nah, it's all original cept for the Motad 2 in to 1 and the Marchozzi shocks which make for a comfy ride
It's a two owner, last one for 17 years lives close by to me, every MOT to go with 28 000 miles, just one of these well looked after bikes. It's had a tank repair a few years ago but otherwise pretty solid and runs as sweet as a nut.
Looks really clean as I have spent most of today removing three months of crap from it, it was all greased up in November and then not washed through the winter, been a good winter so far.
