Now then fellas, I just wondered if any of you lot had ever raised the back of the VTR? I have already done the shock mod with washers, but still fancy getting the seat higher.

I've looked online and found a jack up kit, but, don't fancy spending over a ton if somebody knows a better way of doing it? Does the Storm have "dog bones" that can be replaced to raise the back end, or is there more to it than that? If it was just a case of swapping them out surely I'd be able to put some longer ones in from a different bike and raise it that way?

Any ideas?

Drop the front, has the same cosmetic effect, only a problem if you regularly run out of clearance, scraping pegs and bellypan, etc.

Or make a small link to go between the lower mounting for the subframe and the frame itself, that'll jack up the seat and tail without messing up ride height and dogbone ratios.

Unfortunately, I can't drop the front because of the straight bars. Good idea though Tony.

I did think about the extra mount for the bottom subframe link but thought it'd look untidy. My only other idea if there are no dog bone options was to cut the subframe where it joins under the seat, change the angle and re-weld it...however, I've just got it back from powdercoat so would be a bit pissed off at having to PC it again lol
Then again if I was to do this I would probably swap the whole rear unit for one from another bike and adjust the angle then. Just need to find one I like, which is easier said than done because I change my mind about things quite often...for example, in the last month alone I've wanted to sell the Storm on 3 occasions to get the deposit for a new (old) Triple, money towards a TLS I liked or money for a Buell that flicked my sitch! Misses gets annoyed at me about this lol

None of this has happened though so I'll keep chopping and changing the Storm til I'm happy with it

Keep an eye out for a non-standard rear shock. I bought a fox twin clicker for mine for 100 quid on ebay a while ago and it's adjustable for length.

Jacked mine up by around 30mm, works well with my long legs and has nice crisp turn-in too.

Looks a bit precarious on the side stand though, especially if there's camber on the road

You can always bolt on a 10mm thick plate under the foot of the stand; it's easy to remove later if you change your mind.

Easy mod, put a spacer between the top of the shock & the subframe.

6mm should do it speeds up the turn in nicely. Can be done with washers with a slot cut in them.
