What a day....!

Post by turbo_billy »

Glorious weather round our way today so good excuse for a ride :) I know its not a Storm, but haven`t ridden the bike for a while so tried to start the CBX.....battery dead! Took battery out and acid well below minimum. Topped up and put onto charge and hopefully it will recover, if not, new battery. :(
No problem though, lets take the SP1. All kitted up, helmet on, one piece leathers for a change, prod the starter and she lazily bursts into life. Say goodbye to the missus and kids, go to pull away....... and the bike cuts out!! Try the starter and a feeble attempt at spinning the motor and then nothing. Yep, you`ve guessed it, knackered battery no.2  10 minutes of trying, even with the bike connected to the charger and nothing.
Quite hot and sweaty by now but never fear, good old reliable Storm sat there, last one in the garage. Key in, ignition on and BOOM, good to go.
Pick up a couple of mates along the way and then a good thrash through the lanes down to Abergavenny for a cuppa. Quick pitstop and then off across the Brecons.......or that was the plan anyway. Thought the handling on the bike was a bit off for the last few miles so had a look round the bike in the car park........rear tyre considerably softer than when I left home. Yep, puncture! (And the tyre has only done about 500 miles......gutted) FFS!!!
Luckily (or so I thought) there is an ATS literally across the road but.......they dont fix or sell bike tyres! Only other place in Aber is shut.....and the lads mate who does mobile tyre fitting is on holiday :?
Nearest place would be 15 miles away so go to pump up the tyre as hard as possible and try to make a dash for it......air coming out as fast as its going in.
Best day of the year so far and all I can do is an impression of a boil in the bag meal!!! One piece leathers are NOT made to stand around in in hot weather :redface
Oh well, knew the breakdown cover thrown in with the insurance would come in handy one day. So while all the other boys and girls went out to play, muggins had to wait for nearly an hour for the recovery truck. Good lad he was too and dropped me and the bike off at my local tyre fitter where I had phoned ahead and arranged for new rubber to be fitted. Half an hour later and good to go again. Took the long way home, well, tyre needed a bit of scrubbing in but all in all a bloody expensive 48 mile cup of coffee with £10 worth of petrol and £110 worth of tyre!!
Now just got to sort out a battery for the SP (and possibly the CBX)
Rant over, thanks for listening, feel better now.

We all have these days, where one thing leads to another, one of those days where you could lay down on the floor and cry whilst doing an impression of a fish on land.
