Hello, I have just got myself a W Reg black VTR (22k miles) and it has blown me away. They are great value for money, sounds fantastic (on Arrow Cans) and has more power than I know what to do with. At 35mpg, its not great fuel consuption and I need to fill up every 100-120 miles but the sound it makes and the power it has blows this into insignificance.

I am not an experienced rider, I have been away from bikes for 3 years and last had a CB500 (reliable but not fast enough).

I went to look at 3 bikes at the same shop, a Fazer 600, ZXR600 and the VTR. The Fazer looked boring and was Austin Maxi Gold, the ZXR seemed like a good buy and was suprisingly roomy but when the guy started the VTR, I knew I would have to have it. If I got anything else, I think I would have regretted it, so I let my heart get the better of my head and went for the VTR.

I find the bike fairly comfortable to ride (im 6ft 2), it is very stable, the finish has lasted the test of time, it looks great in black, the brakes are not fantastic but not needed often due to the excellent engine braking it has and overall, I think its a bargain! Well happy.

I plan to use it too and from work ( a 22 mile A road with some great bends and long straights) and Im looking forward to carrying out my own maintenance. I also plan to fit the manual CCT's for peice of mind. If you have a good link with regards to these then I would appreciate it.

Hello and welcome from a black storm owner (fastest colour) lol .
The vtr is a very good bike for little money .
But the only down side is the price of after market bling parts .
This forum offers very good information and support (best on the net)
Also offers a very good community spirit .as a community we do have a few odd balls and I'm proudly one of them .
Have a good read through the workshop knowledge base .
And put up some picture of your now toy for all us to be noisy .

Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)
You can either go for the stop mod View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves through your pistons.

The other thing to check is your regulator rectifier. You will find this behind the right hand side rear fairing panel. If it's an original non-finned version they have a tendency of overheating and taking the battery out with it. You can either update this to a newer finned version or as an alternative install a lot more reliable R6/R1 one. http://vtr1000f.wickidnet.com/

Nice clean bike but you may want to upgrade them head light bulbs .
The head light unit you have is hard to get hold of and looks good but need better bulbs . Where in the would are you

Yep always on the pop and I like sniffing petrol but only the full fat 4+ lol

welcome to the forum buddy, i'm well jealous of the twin headlight conversion, there almost impossible to get hold of nowadays, as was said earlier, make sure its got decent bulbs, they look good but perform poorly
other than that, have fun and enjoy possibly the best 1000cc bargain there is on the planet, if you put your area in your profile, you will be able to meet up with like minded forum weirdos in your neck of the woods.....

Thank you all for a warm welcome. I live in Watton, near Norwich. The headlight conversion does look great but, like you say, the headlight is not the greatest. I will upgrade to some better bulbs in the very near future. Off to Ely on it tomorrow for a look about. I hope you all have a great weekend. Richie
