Literature - Now For Something Different

Post by boz »

Getting away from bike talk for a bit, I've been writing for several years now. Poetry, childrens and short stories and even attempted a novel. Now that I am at Aberdeen Universtiy I have been able to re-kindle my interest and hone my craft - self belief is what its all about.
Anyway, I have made some contacts at uni and hassled one of them to send one of my manuscripts to a professional editor. My outlook would probably be to self publish perhaps, or even convert to an E-book. The manuscipt is a childrens novel with the working title "Finnyston Ballyhouston". I won't give away the plot, but the themes are abandonment, revenge, love and betrayel. It might not sound too much like something you want your kids to read, but I aim to tackle serious pertinant issues head on. Issues that do truly reflect the society we live in and have defined our age.I hope its content scares the sh1t out of the establishment! This aint no fairy tale.
The sub plots revolve around drugs, alcohol, abuse and social peer pressures involving a tight group of friends from varying backgrounds. I would aim to educate more than anything and stimulate discussion away from the discourse presented to us all through corrupt media.
I will post its progress and hope that anyone reading it gives it to their kids. It might bomb but I don't really care....its now on paper forever. As long as it provokes any reaction, my job is done.
One last thing; if I get published it will be under a pen name. No not Boz. Or my real name. This part was the biggest laugh of the while process, the wife and me thinking of one and deciding on it. I don't want to get bogged down by fame after all :D

Intriguing... So what sort of age range are you aiming for? you are dealing with some pretty serious subjects there. Some of it probably quite heavy going. There's a lot to said about self publishing in this day and age. And with the Internet ebooks/epub are an avenue that can sell you book worldwide very easily. Here's an avenue for hitting the states http://www.lulu.com/ not used them myself but my father who's an editor for a specialist niche market magazine, Ships Monthly pointed them out to me.

What is it then. :D Does the wife do your proof reading as well.

Good luck with it mate. Let us know when it's published in one way or another
