Dowty washers or copper for brakes?

Post by BigVeeGrin »

Doing a bit of reading of old posts about brake lines and came across this

http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14898

having just bought some Wezmoto lines with supplied washers, and given I scare easy, would you use these ones with the rubber insert (they're not expensive either) or stick with the copper supplied? Anyone had problems with standard copper ones?

I have only ever used copper washers mate and never had any issues. What are the problems that the rubber lined ones are meant to solve?

the dowtys would have to viton to be compatible with oils & fuels....
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

this is what I read Kev
Zakalwe wrote:Dowty washers are far better as they dont squash down like copper washers. Having said that, the last time I did the brakes on the blade I had to use them as I had run out of Dowtys. The copper washers I had were very soft, and although they sealed OK, it felt like I was about to strip the threads in the caliper as the banjo wouldn't torque up (due to the copper squashing)

You can't re-anneal and re-use Dowty washers.

Plain works for me; never had one leak.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
