Hi everyone, completely new here...so looking for some good advice! I understand you can get up to 10hp gain by
changing exhaust.soooo what is a decent exhaust thats not too obnoxious but still gives a gain and sounds decent.
live in a tight neighbourhood so cant be nasty loud. heard a twobrothers exhaust and was too loud.
look forward to any replies and wisdom!
thanks

Greetings

Hi or low mounted ? - carbon or aluminium or s steel ?- baffled or unbaffled ?. Bear in mind cheap carbon cans can literaly shake themselves to self-destruction from exhaust pulses, and that a lot of aftermarket exhausts aren't made new anymore as the storm is almost a decade old. Keep an eye on ebay or the sales section here for what's available (or Marty's ebay jumble sale thread.) as bargains can be had :-) http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=22638

If you want to see full gains from a freer flowing exhaust then you'll probably also need to consider fitting a different air filter, with resulting jet changes req and dyno time to set-up. £££

Use the google search below and customise the search terms to search what particular configuration you are interested in from previous threads on the forum.

Also there are meet ups for workshop days which could be handy for you to 'hear before you buy' - so far mainly down south but there's a meet in the midlands coming up

Welcome to the forum.

10bhp is a bit optimistic IMO you you would be lucky to get 6bhp and then it would have to be a very expensive good quality race exhaust, preferably full system. As Wicky said you would also need a high flow air filter and have the bike tuned to suit.

The easiest way to gain so many hp in one jump is to get some high compression pistons, new cams etc. But you talking a lot of work and money here and the bike would be a different animal.

You could gain bits here and there buy doing some smaller mods for example by replacing the coils with stick coils will give you an extra 2 bhp.

Have Fun.

Welcome aboard Darnell

I agree, you won't increase the bhp by as much as 10bhp with just changing the cans. Your problem is going to be noise, most after market cans are fairly loud, although ones with baffles are not quite so bad. I use Scorpions myself, I don't consider these over loud, but they probably would be at early hours if you asked the neighbours

I would suggest listening to another Firestorm with after market cans (as Wicky suggests) to see if you find them loud or not before purchasing any for yourself. Get yourself along to a local bike meeting :) if you can't wait for a workshop day.

Chris.

Great stuff guys. already has k&n filter, fella before me said he removed the air induction/injection system,
so adding a stage 1 jet kit is not a really big deal, Im not into drag racing, however I would be lying if I told you
I havent raced a few when provoked!
I dont weigh very much, so bike goes well enough, I just have heard a few with different exhaust that sound,
deep and read a few articles that have said that the pipes and jets made a difference that was noticable.

Have just fitted Micron titanium oval race cans to mine - sound fantastic - loud but not to bad . Go past police station most days so will see what reaction I get !!
Does make a noticable difference to mid range acceleration - revs much cleaner than before.

air induction/injection system
Not sure what he's talking about here. :confused but you want to be very careful messing around with the airbox on these as they are very sensitive to changes, and most times messing around with the airbox can have negative effects.
