Fuel issues ???

Post by sirloveyou »

Hello
Been very busy but found a slot in my schedule to get the storm out !
She hasn't been run for about 5 months ! So I charged the battery & drained the old fuel out of the tank !
Filled her with new fuel and tried to start her, she took a while to fire but when she did she wouldn't rev & ran really lumpy but after a couple of mins she was running sweet as a nut !
So I jumped on her to take her for a spin, 1/4 mile down the road she started to loose power & miss fire then cut out, I tried to start her she would start idle real rough and wouldn't rev just cut out ! I pushed her to a safe spit & left her for 10 mins, tried her again & she fired right up so I jumped on her to get me home she ran good for a short period then stopped again !
Again I left her & she started again
Got her pack and just wondering where to start looking ?

Are you sure you re-connected the fuel lines onto the tank tap correctly?

Did you take the tank off to drain the stale petrol?

Have you put the hoses back in the correct positions?

The smaller tube going to the rear of the fuel tap and not the front/bottom?

I'm sure I put them back in the correct order, they are shaped so I'm sure they have gone onto the correct side of the tap

There is an illustration on here somewhere of the correct positions for the lines but being old and feeble minded I can't find it.
You wouldn't be the first to connect them up in the wrong locations, one of them is counter intuative.

Here's a pic of mine just to compare to yours mate, note the bottom nubbin/drain hole doesn't have a hose attached.

Dude I just been reading your other threads and it seems this has been an ongoing problem.... You make your OP sound like this has recently started as a result of being stored for 5 months and having the tank off.....

I didn't really see any crap but could of been & not checked the plugs
Think I'll drain the tank again & spray some carb cleaner slim the carbs see if that helps

Taking the carbs off, strip down and clean would probably be a good idea if the bike been sitting around with old fuel in for 5 months. But the symptoms you describe are similar to an overhearing problem. It's a long shot and I would think you have checked, but has the cooling system got fluid in and is the fan working? The bits that gets me is the misfire which pulls me towards an ignition problem, so check plugs, ht leads and coils as well. Maybe water trapped somewhere got into the electrics.. Has the bike been stored in the dry?
