newbie to your site picked up a nice vtr not so long ago after my trusty vfr500 f2 failed mot on everything but the handlebar grips. learning how to ride the vtr as everything seems to work. but must say it is a joy to ride sounds good with renegade cans. but can be hard work in town traffic can not get out of second in 30 mph traffic hope to speak to a few people as the weeks go by and maybe learn a few things about these bikes.

2nd at 30mph is good ,,,,,dip the clutch at 4k and crack the throttle open

Yes you will need to get used to dipping & slipping the clutch alot more its the nature of the breed

hi i,m from guildford area in surrey . it is nice to ride and it turns heads. and i certainly get asked the how fast does it go question a lot as though it matters as long as i can keep the dominos pizza slow peds at bay i,m happy oh and i will get some pic on soon.. and i was hoping for 4th gear 6000 revs dip the cluch give it a yank and see what happens

You might see me riding about in Guildford from time to time. I have friends that live in Merrow. Stick you location under your avatar via the user control panel. Members may offer to come and help with any problems you may experiance if they can see where you from.

VTR's are generally very reliable, the only two problem areas are the cam chain tensioners and the regulator rectifier.

CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!
You can either go for the stop mod http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.

have seen a few post concerning cct had mine done today bike was a little ratterly when rolling off the throttle nice and quiet now plus i can sleep without worrying about them untill next time aleast. i,m just near newlands corner not far from merrow always jumping on a3 so will keep eye out and toot if i see you.

What type of cct's did you have fitted. If they are Honda ones then it's worth considering a stopper mod.

I'm on a Black storm with SP1 styles angled cans, very loud.....

i had it done in a shop they said they put honda ones in otherwise they can,t guarantee the work i would like to fit stoppers in but not to sure where to get them and how to do the job i can do most mechancal work but would be nice to have some one look over my shoulder and tut if i do something wrong. i.m on a black storm with a gormless looking rider

Rich you could always drop a tooth on your front sprocket to gear it down a little. Especially if you do a lot of town riding ;-)

i was thinking to do that but i have a few nice long roads to work it.s the last little bit when i hit the town is the pain when i need a chain and sprocket change i think i might look into it more but for now i will learn to live with it unless my local mp gives me my own special lane through town thanks for the advice though.

I have no problems with stripping the bike down and getting the timing right and fitting them but I have never done a stopper mod myself as I have manuals. If you can make the locking key and the stopper I will be more than willing to lend a hand sometime.

High engine braking and leaving the bike running for periods of time on the sidestand have been known to contribute to failures as well as wheelies
