VTR1000.ORG

Hi everyone.

Just purchased a VTR 1000 Firestorm from my dad last week. He bought it a few months ago for £750 because the timing chain had skipped and the piston had clattered the exhaust valves. He's repaired it all and installed manual tensioners and its all up and running again. Bike is in yellow and only done 23000 miles (on a Y reg). Its in excellent condition.

The only modification so far is a 15t front sprocket and I fitted a speedo healer to correct the speedo.

Took it for first ride at the weekend (over 200 mile in an afternoon) and I absolutely love it. I've just sold a 600 Bandit which I had for 7 years and the difference in accessible power and the overall ride and handling is amazing. I am over the moon with it. Shame about the timing as probably wont get many more rides on it this year before the weather sets in but cant wait for next spring/summer so can get some serious riding in!

Yeah I had heard that. Nice not to have to worry about it anymore and just a case of tightening the manual ones when necessary.

Its bloody freezing up here in Newcastle. Wasnt bad on saturday on trip down to Whitby but its currently about 3 degrees outside and the days are struggling to get above 10 degrees now. In the past I only had a motorbike but now I have a car aswel I am soft and dont do rain or the cold!

Welcome to the forum Nathan. Make sure you check the reg/rec on the bike to make sure you don't end up with the Gentlemans set of VTR failures!
I thought all you Geordies were dead ard! Saturday night in Newcastle in the winter and not a coat to be seen!!!

Keep an eye out for the Op Storm posts, it will give you an opportunity to get out and ride with a whole bunch of other Vtrs

Welcome to the forum. I can't believe people don't ride their bikes in winter. What's wrong with you people.

As Kev said check to see if you R/R is a finned one. The early storms came with an fiined R/R which has a tendency to overheat. CBR 125's are a direct replacement.

Welcome mate - like Kev I thought you lot were cast from granite. Oh well, soft northern nonces will have to get used to I'm afraid, and take what Lloydie says with a barrel of salt, he's the resident gimp who wears slippers.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I just dont like being cold or wet as I ride the bike for pleasure and I dont get any pleasure from being wet or cold!

I've checked the reg/rec on the bike and its a finned one - got cooling fins on it. I though this was the better one and the one without the fins on tended to overheat?

Reg/rec is working OK as voltage to battery is correct at all rpm.

Its taxed and insured throughout the winter so I may venture out on any good days we get!

Correct, so if it's finned you should be allright.
